Colin Farrell, Margot Robbie Star in Fantasy Romance A Big Bold Beautiful Journey

Colin Farrell, Margot Robbie Star in Fantasy Romance A Big Bold Beautiful Journey

Info in Movie News | Following their recent individual hits, Colin Farrell and Margot Robbie make their comeback to the movie world with A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, a fantasy romance that combines emotional richness and magical realism. The movie, helmed by Kogonada, the director of After Yang and Pachinko, is more than simply a romantic tale; it’s a reflective excursion into the realms of memory, time, and recovery.

According to Variety, the movie narrates the story of two unfamiliar people, David (Farrell) and Sarah (Robbie), who accidentally get together at a wedding. That encounter leads them to a bizarre trip where unknown doors give them the chance to relive the most important moments of their lives. However, not only just being a walk down memory lane, their trip turns out to be an occasion for them to confront their old problems and even come up with a different future.

Kogonada's signature, which is visually lyrical and emotionally delicate, has got him recognition in the indie market. His previous movies, namely Columbus and After Yang, dared to touch the theme of human connections with soft intensity. This time with A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, he ventures into a more vivid fantasy realm but still honestly representing human sentiments. Variety notes that the movie “blends deep human feeling with a contemplative and surreal visual tone.”

Farrell, in an interview with Collider, described the movie as “a love story, but not a typical one.” He explained that while the world feels familiar, the story veers into whimsical, magical places. “It’s about being confronted with your past, but also being given a chance to revisit it and perhaps change how you carry it,” he said.

Robbie, speaking to Vanity Fair, echoed the emotional magic behind the movie. “If the audience feels even a fraction of the wonder we felt while making this, they’re in for a truly special experience,” said the Barbie star, calling the shoot one of the most magical moments of her career.

This movie  brings together Farrell again with Director Kogonada and actress Jodie Turner-Smith, with whom he had collaborated on the movie After Yang. The main cast of the movie is complemented by Lily Rabe, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Hamish Linklater, who also become part of the mix by contributing their talents.

Secretly, the movie is written by Seth Reiss (The Menu) and Dan Friedkin, Ryan Friedkin, Youree Henley, and Bradley Thomas with the support of other producers, have produced it.

For Robbie, this marks her return to acting after Barbie (2023), during which she focused on producing titles like Saltburn and Borderline. Meanwhile, Farrell recently received acclaim for his role as Oz Cobb in HBO’s The Penguin, a gritty The Batman spin-off that’s already stirring buzz for a second season.

A Big Bold Beautiful Journey opens in theaters on September 19, 2025.
