However, the goth queen of gloom is not satisfied. “I liked it better when I was feared and hated,” she grumbles, while her peers gather around her, begging for autographs. But there’s no time for admiration, or personal space. Within minutes of the first episode, we’re introduced to a fresh villain, the Kansas City Scalper. Dune: Prophecy Season 2 and Dune: Part Three Push the Saga Even Further

Dune: Prophecy Season 2 and Dune: Part Three Push the Saga Even Further

Info in Movie News | It’s a great time to be a Dune fan.  Surely, Dune: Part Three has really got started with its production going on and at the same time, the successful prequel series Dune: Prophecy has also been confirmed for a second season. These two works of art, although both being located in different periods of time, are still complementing and broadening the service of the famous sci-fi universe in directions that even fans have not dreamt of.

According to Variety, Dune: Prophecy has proven to be more than just a companion piece, it’s a vital expansion of the franchise. Set 10,000 years before Paul Atreides ever sets foot on Arrakis, the series explores the origins of the Bene Gesserit, the secretive order that plays a critical role in the fate of the galaxy. Under the leadership of the powerful and visionary Valya Harkonnen, alongside her sister Tula, the series is a journey of their ascent as they exploit prophecy and political play and their brutal training to plant the seeds of power that will one day reshape the universe.

The debut installment on Max (previously known as HBO Max) went down well with critics, who praised the show's elaborate world and actors' great performances. It swiftly garnered a loyal community of fans, and it was one of the new sci-fi series most watched in 2024. Season 2 has been given the go-ahead, and the shooting is expected to start later this year, following the story that reveals the deep past of the Dune saga.

On the other hand, Dune: Part Three has gone into production. As usual, Denis Villeneuve is there to lead the team as a director. This new venture is set to take place after more than a decade since Part Two, when Paul Atreides has taken the role of Emperor and is dealing with the impact of his rise and the religious war that has been spreading all over the cosmos, in his name. Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya step in as Paul and Chani. Besides them, the cast is bolstered by people like Florence Pugh, who is coming in as Princess Irulan, and Jason Momoa, who surprisingly is back as Duncan Idaho.

Unquestionably, the presence of Robert Pattinson stirring rumors about him in the character of Scytale, who is a shape-shifting Face Dancer, raises interesting expectations about the project. Moreover, in an astonishing casting move, Nakoa-Wolf Momoa and Ida Brooke are said to represent Leto Atreides II and Ghanima, characters originally shown as children in Frank Herbert’s Children of Dune. With this being so, those who love the saga come to a conclusion that, apart from Dune: Part Three, there might be the parts of both Dune Messiah and Children of Dune, thus changes to the storyline being hinted at thus making the story to be re-told differently.

Villeneuve himself has stated that while Dune: Part Three continues the story, he doesn’t see it as the conclusion to a trilogy. The first two movies, he explains, were a “diptych” adapting the first book. This third installment, written with Jon Spaihts, is a new vision with its own identity, one that promises to feel fresh even for longtime fans.

The Dune franchise is moving on from one high-profile series to another major theatrical release, and it is turning from a novel that was considered impossible to adapt into a vast, multimedia saga. The spice is definitely still going through the characters, no matter if they are ancient sisterhoods or reluctant emperors, and the storytelling is also going on.
