Info in Movie News | The Evil Dead franchise is back on set, and it’s gearing up to expand its terrifying legacy. After the strong reception of Evil Dead Rise in 2023, creators Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell confirmed that fans wouldn’t have to endure another decade-long wait. They’re keeping that promise, the next horror chapter, Evil Dead Burn, has officially started shooting in New Zealand.
According to MovieWeb, French director Sébastien Vaniček shared an Instagram post marking the start of production, capturing a clapboard stamped with the movie’s title. The new horror movie is set to come out on July 24, 2026. Legacy of Evil will be a standalone addition not directly continuing the storyline of Evil Dead Rise or other previous entries, but it is still the same universe full of Deadites and the unwelcome Necronomicon.
Souheila Yacoub, who is most famous for her performance in Dune: Part Two, is the main attraction of this new chapter. The producers have not revealed anything about the plot yet, but her character is going to be a very demanding one both physically and emotionally and she will still be the protagonist. Besides, her casting seems to be a storyline about human condition and fear dealt with not only brutality but psychological aspect as well.
The ensemble thus is filled by Hunter Doohan (Wednesday), Luciane Buchanan (The Night Agent), and Tandi Wright, who have last appeared in Evil Dead Rise. This blend of returning and new actors has the stage set for a daring new direction in the franchise. Yacoub’s character is being shaped not only as another figure from the horror world, who has just survived, but as the main one, fully developed, the one that keeps on going when the disaster happens.
Vaniček, who earned international acclaim for his 2023 horror debut Infested, is known for building high-stakes, visceral experiences. His spider-based creature movie won accolades for both visual effects and storytelling at the César Awards in France. He is now channeling that very same creative power into Evil Dead Burn, with the intention of providing a horror that is high in energy throughout, an experience that the viewers don't only see but also feel.
The latest one is not made for following the old storylines but rather to be independent. That opens the door to fresh interpretations of long-standing Evil Dead elements like cursed books, possessed beings, and isolated terror. Under Vaniček’s direction, this movie aims to combine grounded characters with shocking set-pieces, possibly introducing new lore and raising the emotional stakes.
This isn’t the only Evil Dead project in the pipeline. Another standalone movie is also in early development, set to be helmed by Francis Galluppi, the movie maker behind the critically praised The Last Stop in Yuma County. Galluppi’s style, grounded, gritty, and suspense-heavy, fits naturally with the tone of the Evil Dead universe. His involvement signals a wider expansion strategy for the franchise.
Evil Dead Burn is primarily the same but also different from several perspectives. It gets new voices, it tries new stories, and it rethinks an Evil Dead movie while it is still the same one. With Yacoub at the helm and Vaniček in charge, horror enthusiasts should expect a powerful outing that pays homage to the series while exploring fresh themes.
While you wait for the next wave of blood and dread, Evil Dead Rise is available now on HBO Max, just in case you need a reminder of how terrifying this universe can be.
