Info in Movie News | Netflix is officially pushing its global action lineup to the next level with Tygo, a high-energy project that expands the popular Extraction universe. The streamer is pairing three powerhouse names, Don Lee, Lee Jin-uk, and Lalisa “LISA” Manobal, to bring a Korean-driven action story into one of its most successful movie franchises. With a combination of intense choreography, emotional depth, and strong character focus, Tygo is positioned as a major release that blends Hollywood scale with Korean cinematic precision.
According to Variety, Tygo centers on Tygo, played by Don Lee, a former child soldier who now works as a mercenary navigating the darkest corners of Korea’s criminal underworld. When an operation goes wrong, his closest companion, Lia, becomes the catalyst for his journey. Throughout the story, Tygo is dragged by this revenge mission through the dangerous underworlds of the syndicates and his tragic past that made his dark side known. The plot depicts Tygo as a deeply intricate protagonist, hardened, psychologically tormented, and affectionate at heart, whereas Lia, the character played by LISA, is portrayed as the most significant source of emotional stability whose abduction really moves the movie emotionally. Opposing them is Armand Choi, portrayed by Lee Jin-uk, the cold, strategic leader of the criminal organization threatening Tygo’s life.
The project represents a partnership Big Punch Pictures, AGBO, Nova Film, and B&C Group, merging Korean and Hollywood talents with one vision. Along with the duo Anthony and Joe Russo, the writers and directors of the first Extraction movies, producing the sequel are also on board, their mother, Angela Russo-Otstot, Michael Disco, and Albert J. Kim. Tygo is adapted from an original graphic novel created by the Russo brothers with Ande Parks, expanding the mythology that fans first encountered through the movies starring Chris Hemsworth.
Director Lee Sang-yong, the mastermind behind The Roundup and The Roundup: No Way Out, is leading this new venture. With his convincing, heavy-hitter style action scenes, Lee is considered one of the most influential and powerful figures in the Korean action genre. Helping him is renowned action choreographer Heo Myung-haeng, whose involvement in very few recent but widely recognized Korean action scenes, has made him an indispensable name. This artistic union is a surety that Tygo will be a movie that concentrates on execution, tough reality, and creative kind of violence.
For LISA, Tygo is a milestone. Following her acting debut on HBO’s The White Lotus Season 3, she will now be seen in her very first movie, a deeply emotional and significant story-leading role. In a press release, LISA mentioned that she is very proud and thankful to be able to work with such great talents and that she always dreamed of being a main character in an action movie. Her global fanbase makes her involvement a powerful draw, extending the reach of Tygo far beyond traditional action audiences.
Don Lee, who has spent years developing this project with AGBO, shared that Tygo will bring a “distinctly Korean identity” to the global Extraction universe. The first part of the brain automatically associates Don Lee with the above-mentioned works. So, just by observing his involvement, the high bar is set up. On the other hand, Lee Jin-uk, familiar with the shows Squid Game and Sweet Home, is a charismatic and fiery actor who impressively plays the adversary role. He expressed that joining the Extraction universe is a significant honor and that he is thrilled to collaborate with Don Lee and LISA.
The Extraction franchise has proven its global strength on Netflix. The first movie reached more than 90 million households in its first four weeks, while Extraction 2 dominated the Global Top 10 Movies chart for seven consecutive weeks with more than 123 million views. With such momentum, Tygo arrives with major expectations as a spin-off that not only expands the franchise but also anchors it in new cultural territory.
Netflix announced that Tygo is a vehicle to explore a different side of the story that eventually becomes a new narrative pillar of the franchise. The movie hopes to provide a new "something" with its Korean setting, emotionally engaging story, and large-scale action sequences, while still "keeping the fans' high intensity." The casting of international actors, the involvement of seasoned action directors, and a world that is already familiar to the fans of the series from different parts of the globe make Tygo a big bet for Netflix in terms of audience turnout.
The movie is being shot at the moment, and more news will be dropped soon as Netflix gets ready to unveil this new chapter of the Extraction universe to its global viewers.
