Hunter with a Scalpel: Park Ju Hyun Faces Dark Secrets and Serial Killers

Info in Movie News | The new K-drama Hunter with a Scalpel is all set to make a big impact on your watchlist with its creepy tale of hidden family, forensic clues and a psychological war. The drama features Park Ju Hyun playing a very challenging role yet, the thriller is a mixture of mystery and feelings with a strong tone that dark drama enthusiasts will definitely enjoy.

According to Soompi, the series follows Seo Se Hyun (played by Park Ju Hyun), a brilliant forensic pathologist who’s known for her precise work and icy personality. But her carefully controlled world begins to crack when, during a routine autopsy, she notices something chilling, the victim was killed using her father’s exact method. Her father, Yoon Jo Kyun, was a notorious serial killer believed to have died 20 years ago.

Rather than alert the authorities, Se Hyun makes a bold decision: she will find him first, not to bring him to justice, but to protect the terrible truth about her past that could destroy everything.

Park Ju Hyun embodies this complex character with the emotional depth it requires. Seo Se Hyun is definitely not your typical female protagonist, she is unsympathetic, aloof, and mainly motivated by remorse and fear. The brilliance that she has as a doctor masks an enormous betrayal traumas, and her mistrust of others makes her loneliness so deep that even her need for assistance is not recognized.

However, on this road of agony and darkness, she has not been left alone. Yoon Jo Kyun (played by Park Yong Woo), a serial killer father, also known as “The Tailor”,”, is not only a memory from the past that haunts her, but also a cunning character who is prepared to trick his daughter into the killing game alongside him. His crimes weren’t just random, he planned them as part of a sick legacy, hoping Se Hyun would one day follow in his footsteps.

Enter Jung Jung Hyun (Kang Hoon), a warmhearted violent crimes detective who crosses paths with Se Hyun during a case. At first, he’s drawn in by her skills and mystery. But as he gets closer, his suspicion grows. He certainly knows that she is hiding something from him, however, he is at the same time emotionally connected to her and maybe even love her. Their quarrel energizes the emotional side of the plot, thereby softening the differences between justice, love, and truth.

Those posters only deepen the mystery surrounding the case. At one of them, Se Hyun is holding a scalpel that reflected her father smiling in the blade, which is a very intimate and, at the same time, an unsettling picture of their relationship while the other one illustrates the brittle peace between Se Hyun and Jung Hyun that is like a thin line of flaming secrets and trust issues that have not been solved yet, thus, the viewers will be in a constant state of guessing.

In this show, Hunter with a Scalpel, there are good actors, very complex emotional characters, and a plot full of suspense. It’s not your typical crime drama. Moreover, the series goes into the depths of how negative experiences affect people, how dark past events continue to poison families, and how sometimes the line between the perpetrator and the victim is very thin.

The drama, which will be first aired on June 16, 2025 on U+TV, U+Mobile TV, and Disney+, still stands to reveal many chilling twists, profound characters’ stories, and it offers a psychological thriller experience that lasts long after the watching is over. If your taste leans towards intense and emotionally rich stories, Hunter with a Scalpel is definitely a go-to show for you.
