Minecraft Movie Crosses $550M Worldwide, Continues Strong Global Run

Info in Movie News | A Minecraft Movie has surpassed the $550 million mark at the global box office. The movie, featuring Jason Momoa and Jack Black, has grossed $550.6 million worldwide as of today, with $269.6 million coming from international markets.

According to Deadline, the Warner Bros and Legendary production earned $79.6 million from 76 international territories during its second weekend. Excluding China, this represents a 42% drop from the opening weekend. Despite ongoing geopolitical issues, the movie remained No. 1 in China on both Saturday and Sunday and is currently in a close competition with a local title for the weekend lead.

The movie is pulling ahead of several recent blockbusters in overseas markets, showing remarkable strength in current currency comparisons. It’s earning well above similar titles, with numbers estimated at over double Sonic the Hedgehog 2, significantly higher than Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, and topping Detective Pikachu, Kung Fu Panda 4, and Jumanji: The Next Level by wide margins.

Leading international territories for the movie so far include the UK with around $39.8 million, followed by China at $20.3 million, Germany at $18.9 million, Mexico close behind with $18.7 million, and Australia at $18.5 million. IMAX showings have contributed a solid $26.6 million globally, with $9.6 million of that from international audiences.

School holidays have begun in many international markets and are expected to continue through Easter, which could support sustained midweek attendance. The movie is yet to release in Japan and Korea, scheduled for later this month.

Elsewhere, 20th Century Studios and Disney released The Amateur, starring Rami Malek, which earned $17.2 million from 52 international markets, contributing to a global opening of $32.2 million. The spy thriller ranked No. 2 in most territories behind Minecraft, with its strongest performances in Europe and Latin America.

In Indonesia, Minecraft debuted with $1.3 million, performing similarly to Sonic 1 and Sonic 3, 11% better than Inside Out 2, and 156% above Sonic 2. Regionally, Europe saw a 41% decline from the opening weekend, while Latin America recorded a 47% drop, with the movie still leading all markets. In the Asia-Pacific region, the second-weekend drop was just 37%. In China, the movie is currently the highest-grossing import of the year and ranks No. 7 overall for 2025.

With major markets still to open and favorable timing during school holidays, A Minecraft Movie is positioned to maintain strong box office momentum in the coming weeks.
