Totto-Chan: The Little Girl at the Window Wins Big at International Film Festivals

Info in Movie News | Totto-Chan: The Little Girl at the Window is a anime that continues to win high marks at various international film festivals. The latest in a series of successes, the movie garnered the Grand Prize for Best Feature Animation at the New York International Children's Film Festival (NYICFF) 2025. The accolade resulted from the audience voting, with a higher share of votes being cast by children under 18 years.

Reported from animenewsnetwork, this achievement has also loudly declared the attractiveness of the story of Totto-Chan, which is based on the legendary memoir of Tetsuko Kuroyanagi. The book has been the source of inspiration for many readers since its first publication in 1981 and has been a mandatory school book for elementary school students in Japan in the 1980s. This movie is an attempt to provide new generations with the opportunity to learn about the way Pertama A girl of Masik weaves developed among the sea of children, drug addiction, and school dropout.

The movie had also been successful at Anima 2025 in Belgium, winning both Best Animated Feature Jury and Audience Awards. On top of that, in February this year, Shinei Animation studio that produced “Totto-Chan: The Little Girl at the Window” was awarded Hiroshi Ōkawa Award at Niigata International Animation Film Festival. Another feather in its cap came from Annecy International Animation Film Festival 2024 as the movie carried off Paul Grimault Award in the category of long film.

Directed by Shinnosuke Yakuwa, who co-wrote the screenplay with Yōsuke Suzuki, this movie was very successful in bringing unique and vivid visuals with characters designed by Shizue Kaneko. By the series of awards it won, Totto-Chan: The Little Girl at the Window has been further proclaimed to be one of the most influential Japanese animated movie on the world stage.
