Synopsis: Bullies (2018)

 

Synopsis:

Park Yong Ho and his mother and sister Chanmi move from a small village to a crowded city, which requires beginning anew at new schools. Yong Ho is enrolled in an all-boys school, and Chanmi is enrolled in an all-girls school. On his very first day, Jin Soo finds himself the subject of a bullying incident initiated by the school’s signature troublemaker, Ki Tae, and his boys, but Yong Ho does nothing to step in. His seatmate is ironically Jin Soo, whose life is further complicated by constant bullying.

Half expecting a boo, Yong Ho stands undeterred. His chance meeting with an old acquaintance, Ki Tae, and the subsequent finding of a boxing gym become his new raison d’etre. For Yong Ho, his love of boxing is his outlet to direct this build-up of anger, while also embracing his growing body for these forthcoming battles.

Back home, Yong Ho’s sister Chanmi is pushing back against his protective impulse — and their mother is dealing with unwanted advances from customers at her shop. The pressure at home compounds Yong Ho’s burden but he perseveres with his training and builds a coalition with classmates Sang Hoon and Hak Soo, who also abhor Ki Tae’s despotism.

The story bows down to Ji Soo being hospitalized after being severely beaten by Ki Tae's gang. This incident causes Yong Ho and his friends to find their voice. In a duel with Ki Tae and his crew, they manage to win and get an image that prevents them from getting bullied again. But this success attracts the attention of fiercer foes, raising the stakes.

As Yong Ho navigates relationships, familial duties, and the moral complexities of his actions, the personal and the political are crisscrossed in his battles, making the work most poignantly of all about what we sacrifice to live our lives. Spoiler without spoiling: as he gets tougher inside and outside the ring, he learns that fighting for justice in comic book world means less punching and more heart.

 

Character Details:

• Park Yong Ho: He undergoes many experiences and is currently a student who has hitherto been spared the hard knocks of life until he finds boxing as a means of self-defense when he is frequently in danger of being bullied and his friends being maltreated.
• Chanmi: The girl is a student at a girls only high school and it is this fact that prevents her from having a smooth relationship with her brother — it is not however his possessiveness that helps the situation much as well. Her story depicts the family problems that Yong Ho is struggling with in school.
• Jin Soo: A person who studies computer science and is also a victim of bullying from the biggest bully, Ki Tae who then from, a friend with Pi Yong that becomes a portal of transformation for Yong Ho from a passive translator to an argonaut among his. When a person who becomes a catalyst for positive change in Youn Ho's eyes commits one hundred percent to every task, you call this person a geeky but valiant student. Such would be the case of Jin Soo with Yong Ho, forming a mouthpiece for a new personality of Yong Ho and the growth he has achieved throughout the years in his school.
• Ki Tae: Ki-Tae is a bad character who likes to tease weak kids and see them get hurt. His fighting with YongHo from childhood makes the old conflict a personal feud.
• Sang Hoon: Another student and friend of Yong Ho, Sang Hoon is an out-and-out when it comes to the hate he has towards bullies and he even stands up as a significant aid in the fight against Ki Tae’s gang by proposing to initiate an anti-bully club.
• Hak Soo: One of Yong Ho's amazing and a new friend who has growing admiration for the assertiveness spirit of Yong Ho and which is why he opts to give help and ultimately become a voice against the bullies. His backing help in their justifications.
• Hye Jin: Ki Tae’s girlfriend who then begins to fall for Yong Ho. She is torn up about her relations with both Ki Tae and Yong Ho.
• Chun Gil: a mature bully, prevents Ki Tae and his buddies from asserting themselves with their group. Problems with Yong Ho aggravate the conflicts and thus period it.
• Seong Tae: the new leader after Chun Gil, succeeds in scaring Yong Ho into joining his gang. His leader's role and confrontations with Yong Ho are still cutting through bullying.
• Minjung: a regular school girl who later develops deep feelings for Yong Ho after he rescues her. Her being there is a sweet little ingredient that introduces a romantic theme to the story.
• Dae Chun: a boy who merely joins the school, is ambiguous in the past, and his martial arts skill is excellent. The links to Seong Tae he had before, and the success in showing both sides of the story serve to enhance the narrative.

The films "Bullies": a 2018 realist tale include the students who have their common and unique problems in their friendships. The story walks around the ideas of friendship, survival, and the students' struggle, and their potentials to fight against a political oppressing situation.
