Info in Movie News | After much anticipation, The Invisible Man and His Soon-to-Be Wife has officially confirmed its broadcast year, 2026. Originally scheduled for 2025, the supernatural romantic comedy based on IWATOBINEKO’s manga has unveiled its first teaser trailer, along with announcements for its main cast and key staff members. The anime has definitely set fan's expectations really high for a supremely sugary and weird romance that is concealed in a rather quirky office environment and also has some fantasy elements thrown in.
According to Crunchyroll, the anime will feature Yōhei Azakami as Akira Tounome, a detective that is very charming and has the strange power of becoming invisible and Yuka Nukui as Shizuka Yakou, a calm, blind woman that is attending the same agency as him. Though Akira has this power, he still feels that he is invisible both in the literal and in the figurative sense when he is with Shizuka.
In the story, we see how their relationship evolves at the detective agency where it is often the case that Akira’s invisibility is beneficial for the solving of the cases, however, when it comes to the expression of sincere feelings it is not so good. At first, Shizuka, oblivious to Akira’s love for her, slowly dives into the deep confusion of love and is always there for her. Her two friends, one a bit sarcastic male and the other a warm-hearted and funny female, havep rovided her with support. At the moment, they are like a crazy bunch who are still trying to figure out how the work, life, and love things fit together.
The animation director of this anime is Mitsuho Seta (Solo Camping for Two), who is also the series composer. Studio Project No.9, known for their clean and expressive animation style, is the one taking care of the production. Character designs are brought to life by Kairi Unabara (Witch Hat Atelier), while the series’ atmosphere is enriched by music from Ruka Kawada (Is the order a rabbit?, Saint Cecilia & Pastor Lawrence). Sound direction is by Nozomi Nakatani (Non Non Biyori, Peach Boy Riverside), and Yoichi Kadono is uniquely credited for “suit design supervision,” hinting at some stylish flair in Akira’s wardrobe.
The first manga was done by IWATOBINEKO on X (formerly Twitter) in 2021 and then on pixiv Comic it was serialized. Since then, it has gained a considerable fan base for its mellow tone, the honest love story, and a rather peculiar premise. The English version of the manga is published by Seven Seas Entertainment, thus giving the fans all over the world an opportunity to be enamored with the charming duo of Akira and Shizuka.
In the teaser, just a little part of the main story could be seen, however, the mood has already been set very clearly that this is not a typical office romance. As a result, with one of the characters being blind and the other invisible, The Invisible Man and His Soon-to-Be Wife is changing the idea of perception, closeness, and connection not only in a figurationship way but also quite frankly.
To those who are in love with peaceful narratives, weird love stories, and characters with some magical powers, it is suggested that they keep this manga in mind. Perhaps in 2026, the invisible ones will not only be seen but also feel.
