Info in Movie News | Henry Golding, who was once rumored to be the next James Bond, is discussing a new project that he was a part of and also the one that he was just mentioned in that are the possible crossover of the Transformers and G.I. Joe franchises. The actor has done many roles of different genres, but he recently spoke about the long-rumored project and his interest in reprising the role of Snake Eyes, the masked ninja.
According to Collider, the movie Transformers: Rise of the Beasts (2023) had a post-credit scene that was full of surprises for the fans, and they were barely able to keep up with it as it hinted at a G.I. Joe connection. Soon after, reports surfaced that a joint universe movie was officially in development. Chris Hemsworth is apparently going to be the main actor in this movie, and Derek Connolly (Jurassic World) is the writer, but nothing else really is released at the moment, no title, no date of release, and no confirmed casting.
Speaking to Comicbook.com about the sequel The Old Guard 2 that is on Netflix, Golding who was Snake Eyes in G.I. Joe Origins, was asked about the rumors of the crossover, he frankly said, “I am aware that there are some things taking place, there are rumors of Transformers and Snake Eyes.” I don’t know if they’ll just skip our G.I. Joe and go back to the original G.I. Joe, like, who knows? I think we had a rough, rough run on that one.”
True words. The movie Snake Eyes that was released in 2021 was met with divided opinions — it got only 35% from critics and a more positive 74% from users on Rotten Tomatoes. Golding still supports the character’s potential and the opportunities for new stories, even though the movie has not been received well.
“I’d be more than happy. I suppose the potential is endless,” he answered when asked about the possibility of coming back to Snake Eyes. “The character is so good and the universe is so great.” Golding also admitted the enthusiasm of the G.I. Joe fanbase and their aspirations to see the franchise flourish. He gave an expression of his hope that the franchise would be brought back for the fans, even if he wasn’t there, showing a sincere appreciation for the role and the history it represents.
Outside the G.I. Joe realm, Golding has also been expanding his action resume. Last year he was in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare with Henry Cavill and Alan Ritchson. The movie is a World War II action movie by Guy Ritchie. Golding took the role of Freddy Alvarez in the movie that also starred Cary Elwes and Eiza González. The movie has been very popular on Starz and it is one of the most watched titles on the platform.
Even though there are no confirmed details, the fan response definitely indicates that the buzz for the crossover movie is gaining momentum to the point of a concept of fusing together Hasbro’s top properties. It is still uncertain if Henry Golding’s Snake Eyes will be included in the plan or not but the actor’s positive response and the fact that he is eager to be part of it, certainly, leave the possibility open.
At this moment, fans can only watch and wait as studios decide the next move, but one thing is clear, the G.I. Joe story is still going strong.
