Drop (2025), A Tech-Driven Thriller That Will Keep You on the Edge

Info in Movie News | The latest psychological thriller Drop officially hit theaters on April 11, 2025. Directed by Christopher Landon (Happy Death Day, Freaky), the movie stars Meghann Fahy as Violet Gates, a single mother whose first date spirals into a tech-fueled nightmare. Produced by Blumhouse Productions and Platinum Dunes, Drop runs a tight 95 minutes packed with suspense.

According to The Guardian, the story centers around Violet receiving threatening messages via Apple’s AirDrop while dining at a high-end restaurant in Chicago. The anonymous sender forces her into a series of dangerous tasks under the threat of harm to her son and sister, who are home under someone else’s care. With no clear suspect in sight, Violet must act quickly, as every person around her could pose a continuous treat.

The movie comes from Universal Pictures, the company behind Get Out. Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes, the powerhouses of horror, are once again demonstrating their vast knowledge in the genre and the modern, tech-driven thriller era with the movie Drop.

Drop made a worldwide opening of $10.5 million during its first weekend, with the domestic audience contributing as much as $8 million. The movie opened at the number five position at the global box office and was able to compete with movies like The Amateur and The King of Kings. The movie, despite not yet recouping its estimated $11 million budget, the movie shows promise because of positive word-of-mouth and a growing fanbase.

Critics have responded favorably, awarding the movie an 84% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Regarding Fahy's work, it has been mentioned as the one that stands out throughout with its emotional depth, which brings a lot of fear to the narrative. A few reviewers have said that the plot which stretches into the field of unlikeliness is one of the things that they have noted.

Drop with its timely comment on the dangers of online connections and a main character who is very convincing cannot be missed by audiences who like movies that keep them curious about what will happen next in the present or future.
