Last Samurai Standing, Netflix Series Set to Release in November 2025


Info in Movie News | Netflix has finally put a release date on one of its latest projects. The show, "Last Samurai Standing", is based on the manga "Ikusagami" written by Shogo Imamura and Katsumi Tatsuzawa.

The story tracks 292 fighters who arrive at a temple to fight in a royal rumble offering 100 billion yen ($900 million) in prize money. This series, described as “the Samurai version of @SquidGame,” will stream on Netflix from November 2025.

Netflix revealed the release date for “Last Samurai Standing” as part of its announcement about international releases, in “What’s on Netflix.” This series comes as part of a number of action projects in development at the platform.

The series, whose full title is “The Last Samurai Agent,” stars Junichi Okada (From Up on Poppy Hill, Tales from Earthsea) as Shujiro Saga, whose job is to dodge those slicing swords of samurais in order to save his wife and child. The series is directed by Michihito Fujii.

Okada, who is also credited as a producer and action choreographer for the series, make a statement regarding directing the epic hit in a Netflix interview. He is excited about offering the best of action, drama, social critique, but ultimately entertainment for a global audience through the streaming service.

In a Netflix press release dated April 18, 2024, Okada (who got his first shot in film in 2003) said Netflix's executive producer, Sinichi Takahashi, approached him to make a series that would raise eyebrows in Japan and also around the world. This is how he met and eventually adapted the manga Last Samurai Standing into the series.

The cast also includes Riho Yoshioka as Shojiro’s wife, Shino, and Yumia Fujisaki as Fuji Katsuki. Shujiro’s allies are played by Kaya Kiyohara, Taichi Saotome and Yuya Endo as Iroha Kinugasa, Shikura Adashino and Sansuke Gion, respectively.

Masahiro Higashide plays Kyojin Tsuge, a ninja from the Iga clan, and Shota Sometani plays Kocha Kamuy, an archer from the Ainu tribe.

Hiroshi Tamaki stars as Ukyo Kikuomi, an aristocratic warrior skilled with a long sword.

Takayuki Yamada stars as a Kyoto policeman, Jinbe Ando, and Jyo Kairi plays a debt-burdened young man, Shinjiro Sayama.

Wataru Ichinose tracks the charismatic Raizo Tachibana and Hideaki Ito takes on Bukotsu Kanjiya, a savage character connected to Shujiro’s history.

The deadly contest is presided over by two enigmatic figures, Sakura and Enju, played here by Yasushi Fuchikami and Kazunari Ninomiya.

This series has an interesting plot story with a good star cast and great fight sequences and will definitely make waves around the world. Release Date of Arrival for this series in Netflix - November 2025
