The year is 2049, in a world that has turned into a post-apocalyptic wasteland where a massive earthquake has made the world a wreck — along with a ravaged city of Seoul. When the world becomes a cutthroat place and only the strongest prevail, Transcendence follows wasteland bow hunter Nam-san and his comrade, Choi Ji-wan, who is tasked with helping him locate and recover food, water and other materials to keep their existence going in the waste. On the contrary, the scarce resources and in particular the water has made the survivors build small villages in the wilds and war for the little they have.

Trouble starts when Su-na, a daring girl from Nam-san’s village, and her grandmother, Yeon-su, are assaulted by a violent gang searching for a criminal. Nam-san and Ji-wan intervene, saving Su-na but not before Su-na’s grandmother is badly hurt. Plot twists ensue as yakuza members hunt Yang, the aforementioned scientist, whose illegal serum claimed lives of many teenagers, including Yang's daughter So-Yeon.

The extra supplies needed for Gi-su's experiments — teenagers, one of which is Su-na being kidnapped and held hostage inside a lab in the vacant building. When a special forces sergeant, Nam-san, Ji-wan, and Lee Eun-ho discover the experiments, they decide to rescue her, Su-na. There, the trio fights mutant soldiers and faces off against Gi-su, who flees with his daughter’s corpse in a suitcase. However, he is mobbed by an angry crowd and inadvertently kills his daughter. Nam-san finally puts an end to Gi-su’s reign of terror and heads to the village with Su-na and Ji-wan, a bittersweet victory for the survivors.
