Longtime fans of the superhero team have enjoyed the 2003 animated series, its comedic spin-off Teen Titans Go!, and even the darker live-action Titans show on Max. Now, new projects are in the works that could bring the young heroes into the spotlight again.
According to a report from Collider, Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group heads Pam Abdy and Mike De Luca recently revealed that James Gunn and Peter Safran are developing two Teen Titans projects. One is a brand new Teen Titans Go! movie, while the other is a live action film that could potentially tie into the rebooted DC Universe.
Although no specific plot details or place and date of release have been made public, fans' minds have been set in motion just by the mere confirmation alone. If the live action version is based on all or most of the characters of the original comic, we can be sure of meeting Robin, Starfire, Raven, Beast Boy, and Cyborg. The figure of Robin, particularly the original caped crusader's alter-ego Dick Grayson, has always worked as the most vital part of the team. His character already was shown in the Titans series, played by Brenton Thwaites, which was a more grim, mature version.
The Titans TV series, which completed its four-season journey, is both cynical in nature and deeply emotional in its storytelling. It even linked up briefly with the Arrowverse through the "Crisis on Infinite Earths" crossover, but it was mostly treated as its own standalone universe. With Gunn and Safran now shaping the new DCU, there's a strong chance we’ll see a fresh version of the Teen Titans that fits into their long-term vision.
On the animated side, Teen Titans Go! continues to find success with younger viewers. Its 2018 film, Teen Titans Go! To the Movies, was a surprise box office hit, earning over $52 million worldwide and landing a 92 percent critics score on Rotten Tomatoes. Its fun, meta-humor and colorful animation kept the spirit of the characters alive, even if it wasn't quite what fans of the original series expected.
