Netflix’s Scandals: A K-Drama Remake of Untold Scandal Brings New Twist to a Classic Tale

Info in Movie News | The K-drama world is currently in a state of frenzy! Netflix has officially disclosed that it is in the process of producing a high-class drama, tentatively titled Scandals, that includes in its cast Son Ye Jin, Ji Chang Wook, and Nana.

According to Soompi, Scandals is a remake of the 2003 Korean film Untold Scandal, which itself is an adaptation of the classic French novel Dangerous Liaisons by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos. The story unfolds against the backdrop of the Joseon Dynasty, where the drama presents the audience to the societal order that regulates all things so strictly that it suppresses the characters' innermost feelings and desires. It is thus a love affair that is not only romantic but also a risky love game that comprises manipulations, sexual advances, and emotional abuses.

It was reported that this time Son Ye Jin, who previously played in popular Crash Landing on You, has been chosen to perform the role of Lady Cho. Son Ye Jin becomes a respectable female character whose personality is intelligent and witty, and her character plans illegal secret love betting without being noticed by others. Ji Chang Wook who is just off the Welcome to Samdal-ri TV series becomes the charisma guy, Cho Won. A merely love-enjoyer, Won was and is related to an absence of belief in true love. On the other hand, Nana, from the Mask Girl, will depict Hui Yeon, a woman with the label of a widow who has been living in the purity of chastity only; and now, she is fighting her inner spirits as she has been in love with Cho Won.

To add to the excitement of the drama, Scandals is helmed by Jung Ji Woo who famously worked on A Muse and Netflix’s Somebody. The script is written by Ahn Hye Song and the production is in the hands of MOVIEROCK, so the film will be definitely a new and attractive version of an old story.

The story of Dangerous Liaisons has been reproduced a lot, with the most noticeable being Hollywood’s Dangerous Liaisons (1988) and the modern version Cruel Intentions (1999). The modern Scandal, in the context of the fascinating Joseon dynasty, is expected to open the story in the most unique and culturally revealing way.

The date when the show will be released is not yet known but the fans are very excited for the love affair between Son Ye Jin, Ji Chang Wook, and Nana on screen. Could it then be another most-watched Korean drama on Netflix? Let's watch and see!
