Maggie Gyllenhaal’s The Bride! Delayed to 2026, Promises a Unique Horror Experience

Info in Movie News | Maggie Gyllenhaal takes a little longer to perfect her latest horror movie, The Bride! that she was going to write and direct. Warner Bros Discovery has just revealed that the movie has been moved from its original release date on 26th September 2025 to 6th March 2026. Instead, the date is now occupied by One Battle After Another, a new action-comedy movie by Paul Thomas Anderson starring Leonardo DiCaprio.

According to Collider, the movie was a hit ahead of its release thanks to the stars involved. Christian Bale will play the role of the monster Frankenstein, while Jessie Buckley will be the mysterious bride. Several official and behind-the-scenes photos that have been released show off the unique looks of Bale and Buckley, which instantly aroused the curiosity of the fans. With a cast of actors and Gyllenhaal's very personal view, this movie may well turn out to be one of the most enthralling horror releases of the next few years.

In terms of the concept, The Bride! is going to be seen as a new take on the classic movie The Bride of Frankenstein (1935) based on the novel from Mary Shelley changes to the plot. The story will follow the lonely monster Frankenstein, who travels to Chicago in the 1930s to find the help of Dr. Euphronius in making a partner for himself.

What makes the movie more intriguing is the mixture of references that Gyllenhaal used. John Magaro, who is one of the cast members, revealed that the movie will draw its top influence from different genres and movies, for example, Young Frankenstein, Bonnie and Clyde, to the musical-like feel of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. "All the characters are in those different worlds. It is just crazy," Magaro said.

With Gyllenhaal at the helm of the director’s chair, we may be able to anticipate a more fresh and relevant gothic story. Besides, the cast is also extraordinary – besides Bale and Buckley, there’s Penélope Cruz, Peter Sarsgaard, Annette Bening, Julianne Hough, Jake Gyllenhaal, and many more. If the movie needs a little more time to become perfect, the fans seem to be ready to wait as well.
