This iconic character that didn't appear in the first film, for once, is going to be given the full spotlight. All fans of the Mortal Kombat franchise are certainly going to be delighted to witness the return of Cage, who is recognized for his flamboyant action sequences and his distinct Hollywood style.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Ed Boon, one of the creators of Mortal Kombat, officially confirmed that Urban brings a new and unique spin on Johnny Cage. The co-creator added, "Karl puts his own spin on this, which makes Johnny Cage a bit newer," said Boon.

For his part, the director Simon McQuoid said that this decision was reached only after considering many options, and Urban was the masterpiece they came out with. "It was important that the actor embodies a character who will not only serve the purpose of a comedic element but also possess emotional depth at the same time," he pointed out.
