Synopsis: In Time (2011)

 

Setting: Set in 2169, where people are genetically engineered to stop aging at age 25. After this time, they only have one more year to live unless they earn more time, which has become the currency of this society.

Plot Summary: Will Salas (Justin Timberlake) lives in a poor time zone with his mother, Rachel (Olivia Wilde), fighting to survive. The ghetto life force: survive and work for more time. The wealthy exist in some other time zone, anointed by another local "New Greenwich," where you could even be effectively immortal.

Will eventually meets a wealthy man named Henry, who has more than a century on his timer. Henry wants to spend whatever little time he has left with Will before ending his life. This move gets Will on the Timekeepers’ radar as a suspected murderer, as the Timekeepers act as a kind of police force over time usage. Will's life is altered when Henry gives him his remaining time and now Will has to use it to enter the world of New Greenwich culture and avenge his mother's death — which occurred when she was unable to purchase more time and simultaneously ran out.

Will encounters Sylvia Weis, the daughter of a rich time-lending industrialist, Phillippe Weis. Will's background piques Sylvia's interest, and they enter into a complicated relationship. Will’s quest for justice becomes a rebellion against the system when he and Sylvia begin robbing time banks and redistributing time to the poor.

  

Character Details:

1. Will Salas (Justin Timberlake):

   • A young man who has a great ambition and a good heart, born in the ghetto and also the person to have been bequeathed with a time of a century by Henry which is actually a mistake. He is the one who is wrongly accused of murder and he goes on a journey fighting the corrupt system.

2. Sylvia Weis (Amanda Seyfried):

   • The daughter of a wealthy time-loaning businessman is Sylvia. She starts as a person who is rich and lives a life of glamor but then her life becomes very unlike it was when she decides to join Will in his fight against the inequality of their society.

3. Rachel Salas (Olivia Wilde):

   • His mother, who bleeds out in his arms right on the clock Her passing away aims to push Will's fight over the limit.

4. Henry Hamilton (Matt Bomer):

   • A rich man sick of being immortal who gifts his time to Will before killing himself. His actions triggered the story’s central events.

5. Raymond Leon (Cillian Murphy):

   • An ambitious Timekeeper set on bringing Will to justice. He is the person who stands up for the force that is oppressive and corrupt and that has the power in this world.

6. Phillippe Weis (Vincent Kartheiser):

   • The powerful time-loaning businessman and Sylvia's father He represents the greedy elite who take all the time, keeping the poor underfoot.

7. Fortis (Alex Pettyfer):

   • He leads the gang, made up of other people, who steal time from others. This creates a situation in which every day they face a serious threat either by someone who wants to save time or wants a fight.

Themes:

1. Class Inequality:

   • It is a film that explores the enormous gap between the rich and the poor, the former living immunologically while human beings undergo the terror of illnesses.

2. The Value of Time:

   • The concept of the time as a piece of life's money gives the last significance to the importance of the time at the same time as it reveals the disturbing trend of the human life's commodification.

3. Rebellion and Justice:

   • Will's change from just a simple worker in the factory to the one leading the revolution is not only about the struggle against the system but also the dream for the existence of equality.

"In Time"  is a science fiction concept with a social commentary, depicting a world in which the disparity between rich and poor literally becomes a matter of life and death. Will, the film's lead, embodies hope and resistance in a world where time is a currency and a limited one at that.
