Synopsis: Wu Assasin (2019)

The series centers around a young chef named Kai Jin who works in San Francisco's Chinatown. His life is turned upside down when he is chosen to be the Wu Assassin, granted the power of 1,000 monks and tasked with stopping the Wu, who each control a natural element of the world: fire, water, earth, wood and metal.

Detailed Synopsis:

The series introduces Kai Jin, a chef who works at a restaurant owned by Tommy Wah, and who gets beat up by members of the feared Triad group when a wrong order goes out. Tommy’s sister, Jenny Wah, comes to the rescue to find the restaurant in chaos. At the same time, Uncle Six, a bloodthirsty Triad chief, dispatches two bodies in an act of intimidation to keep his reign over his territory.

Everything changes for Kai when he meets Ying Ying, who presents him with a Monk's fragment (essentially a powerful object), which allows him to become the Wu Assassin. At first he believes it to be a dream, until his face begins to morph and Kai understands that the power is real. And Kai, who has been estranged from Uncle Six, his adoptive father, finds out that Six wants him to join the Triad but refuses, valuing his freedom.

Rather than stand in solidarity, Uncle Six orders his men to attack Kai, but his new powers allow him to fight off the attackers. Kai, with Ying Ying's guidance, learns of his mission to defeat the five Wu. His first target: Uncle Six, the Wu of Fire. Kai ultimately accepts his fate — especially after harming people through visions — but struggles with the emotional conflict.
