Info in Movie News | Din Djarin and Grogu are back, but this time, their adventure won’t be unfolding on Disney+. The beloved duo is taking their next mission to the big screen in The Mandalorian & Grogu, the first Star Wars movie to hit theaters in nearly seven years. If the footage presented at Star Wars Celebration 2025 is a foreshadowing of things to come, then fans could really expect an amazing spectacle.
According to Collider, the special teaser showed Mando (Pedro Pascal) and Grogu plotting something with a new character played by Sigourney Weaver, who is a powerful and mysterious figure. Though details on her character remain under wraps, Weaver shared that she sends Din on a mission to the far reaches of the Outer Rim. “I’ve got scenes with little Grogu, and that might be the real reason I signed on,” she joked. “He’s grown up a bit now, and let’s just say, he’s kind of a badass.”
The cast also includes The Bear’s Jeremy Allen White as Jabba the Hutt’s son, a wild twist that’s already sparking theories. And while Giancarlo Esposito is playing coy about returning as Moff Gideon, fans are suspicious. After all, would he really spoil a major surprise if he was involved?
Another character who could factor in? Bo-Katan Kryze. Actress Katee Sackhoff hinted in a recent interview that her story isn't quite finished. With so many pieces potentially converging, this movie might be the connective tissue for what’s next in the galaxy far, far away.
Meanwhile, Lucasfilm is expanding its slate with fresh stories. Star Wars: Starfighter, directed by Shawn Levy and starring Ryan Gosling, is an original tale set outside the Skywalker saga. Gosling plays a lone pilot charting new corners of the galaxy in a movie that promises high-octane action and entirely new lore. Set for release on May 28, 2027, Starfighter could redefine what a Star Wars movie can be.
Over on the streaming side, Andor Season 2 is also ramping up. The next season brings back fan-favorite droid K-2SO and voiced by Alan Tudyk. The new season is going to tell the story of Cassian and K-2SO's first meeting, to build a connection from the series to Rogue One. One that is resonating with the theme Diego Luna has hinted at is a mood that is gloomy and intensified, in other words, the series is dealing with the price of rebellion in a more profound manner. The new season premieres April 22, 2025 on Disney+.
As for The Mandalorian & Grogu, mark your calendars: the movie lands in theaters May 22, 2026. Whether you’re here for Mando’s stoic charm or Grogu’s growing powers, one thing’s clear, Star Wars is back, and it’s bringing the galaxy with it. Until then, you can rewatch all seasons of The Mandalorian on Disney+ and get ready for a new chapter that’s bigger, bolder, and definitely, more Grogu.
