Retro Youth Drama A Hundred Memories Unveils Story of Love and Friendship

Info in Movie News | JTBC is set to warm audiences this fall with its upcoming drama A Hundred Memories, a nostalgic journey into the lively 1980s of South Korea.  A sweet little mix of youth, dreams, and the tangled sweet-sour feelings of first love, the show got Academy Award-winning actresses Kim Da Mi and Shin Ye Eun on it. The broadcast is arranged to start on September 13 at 10:40 p.m. KST, is already creating a buzz with its retro atmosphere and the profound emotional nature of the plot.

According to Soompi, A Hundred Memories is not only a love triangle to love but it also depicts the working-class life in the 1980s through the eyes of characters who are dealing with personal sacrifice, friendship, and ambition. At the heart of the story are Go Young Rye (played by Kim Da Mi), a bus conductor who battles motion sickness just to make ends meet, and her fearless best friend Seo Jong Hee (Shin Ye Eun), who works alongside her in hopes of escaping her troubled home life.  The two young women forge a strong friendship at work, only to discover that they have become lovers of Han Jae Pil (Heo Nam Jun), their first love, in common.

Kim Da Mi, who was highly praised after her roles in Itaewon Class and Our Beloved Summer, comes back with a character that reveals her both the weak and the strong sides of her nature. Young Rye is a tireless eldest daughter who carries the burden of her family’s survival on her shoulders. Honestly, her character may come across as quite gentle, but if the situation is about people avoiding paying the bus fare, she turns into a quite a tough officer of the law.Even though she is feeling very bad because of her motion sickness, Young Rye still perseveres as she strongly believes that she will be able to go to college one day, which is the only thing that gives her strength.

Shin Ye Eun's energy and charisma won Seo Jong Hee over with love from the viewers. Shin, who has been popular with The Glory and Revenge of Others, is now taking on a role that defines the rebellious, independent nature of the young generation. Jong Hee’s bright red lipstick was a symbol of her character. Jong Hee’s eye-catching crimson lipstick is a perfect reflection of her characteristics, a daring, confident, talkative, and definitely not wanting to be affected by her situation person.

The relationship between the two main characters is expected to be one of the most potent elements of the series that will attract the audience. Both Kim and Shin have been consistently ranked among South Korea’s most bankable young stars, according to recent data from the Korean Film Council. Their relationship is definitely going to be the emotional heart of the show, with those scenes that show them talking about everything through the night on the bus and also dealing with silent heartbreaks and quiet victories.

In terms of visuals, A Hundred Memories is absolutely soaked with retro vibes. The individuals are fitted out with very real 1980s bus conductor uniforms, which consist of navy suits and red berets, whilst the streets are covered with vintage signs and classic buses. Together with the carefully chosen soundtrack of Korean hits from that decade, the show is set to take viewers on a trip back in time.

The clothes definitely didn't just reawaken the spirit of the past; they also visibly expressed the frenzy and imperfect beauty of youth. The designers referred the collection as a "firsts" tale, the initial love, the initial heartbreak, the initial big aspirations, thus recording all the times that made growing up so emotionally charged and irreplaceable. With Kim Da Mi and Shin Ye Eun headlining, A Hundred Memories shelves into friendship, emotional growth, and the kind of moments that stay with you forever. The show creators are eager that it may evoke nostalgic feelings in the audience and thus, lead them on a very emotional and fulfilling journey.

As September is coming, don't forget to stand at the bus stop, as A Hundred Memories is all set to carry you on a ride of joy, sadness, and the magic of becoming who you are that you will never forget.
