The actor who won an Academy Award is now in the advanced stages of negotiations to lead HBO's True Detective Season 5, a crime anthology series that has been very successful over the last ten years. According to Variety, the next season of True Detective is going to be set at Jamaica Bay, New York City. That indicates a significant shift from the frozen Alaska of True Detective: Night Country. It is believed that the character Cage will be Detective Henry Logan, the focus of a new mystery. Although HBO has refused to give any statements, some sources say that the talks are progressing and hence there is an excitement that the actor will officially be joining the project in the next few months.

This could be the perfect canvas for the characters and story to be a combination of what is the True Detective's hallmark: stylized noir, deep psychological insights, and spooky tension. Should Cage be taking over from Henry Logan as the lead, then the viewers might be seeing a character that is not only tormented but also determined, which is quite in line with the actor’s.
Cell's being cast would be in line with True Detective's tradition that the show uses an anthology format to revive itself with new characters.
