Info in Movie News | Alison Brie teases her role in Masters of the Universe, while Nicholas Galitzine takes center stage as He-Man in Amazon MGM's upcoming reboot.
After years of delays and changes behind the scenes, Masters of the Universe is finally heading to the big screen, with a bold vision, a star-studded cast, and a fresh new take on a childhood classic.
According to Deadline, the live-action movie is based on Mattel’s iconic franchise and is being produced by Amazon MGM Studios. The story mainly revolves around Prince Adam, a child from the faraway planet Eternia who met with an accident on Earth and lost his magic sword due to which he was not able to find it. Nearly two decades later, he rediscovers the weapon, setting him on a path back home to become He-Man and battle the evil Skeletor.
Going by the lead in the movie is Nicholas Galitzine, who is on fire in the last few months getting roles in big productions and going viral. Galitzine takes on the role of Prince Adam / He-Man and calls this movie a venture dipped in newness. “We didn’t make this movie based on the earlier programs or comics. The script we worked on was like our Bible,” he revealed.
Though the story may be a trip down memory lane for the older generation, Galitzine indicates that the movie is envisaged as a means to acquaint the kids of today with the world of Eternia.
Community alum Alison Brie, who plays sorceress Evil-Lyn, a character of the same power level, is also here with him. Brie spoke to Collider about the rumors that the movie is more dark and serious than the campy nature of the original 1980s series in a recent interview. “Who said it’s leaning a little more serious?” she said with a smirk, “I don’t think they know as much as they think they know. That’s all I’m gonna say.”
Travis Knight, the man who is famed for his work on Bumblebee (2018) which was a heartfelt and emotional addition to the Transformers series, has directed the movie. A prequel that basically helped in the revitalizing of the Transformers franchise, Knight is now back in the world of 1980s toys and this time he has given Masters of the Universe a very trendy and new look while still keeping its classic roots.
A teaser titled Title Reveal that was dropped just a while ago exhibits the movie's logo done in 3D lettering that is reminiscent of the past along with an instrumental orchestral version of the original 1982 cartoon theme. The clip closes with the announcement of a global release date, June 5, 2026.
The cinematic universe has quite a following, and a new movie ensemble of the same name has also been created. This new movie gathers a big group of stars including Jared Leto as the very bad Skeletor, Camila Mendes as Teela, Idris Elba as Duncan/Man-at-Arms, Sam C. Wilson as Trap Jaw, Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson as Goat Man, and Morena Baccarin as The Sorceress. A lot of things are going on from the rumors of a Dolph Lundgren cameo who was the one to play He-Man in the 1987 movie in addition to the various other things that are going on.
Though the expectations are quite high, both Galitzine and Brie have highlighted the film’s equilibrium between paying homage to the past and innovating. With gorgeous scenery, a contemporary screenplay, and a new burst of vigor, Masters of the Universe might be the reboot that lastingly satisfies fan dreams and introduces the power of Grayskull to a completely new era.
