According to TV Insider, Butterfly follows David Jung (Kim), a former U.S. intelligence officer living in hiding with a quiet life in South Korea. When his past resurfaces with violent force, he becomes the target of an elite assassin named Rebecca with , a young operative trained by a covert group called Caddis. What she doesn't know is that David is the father she thought died years ago.
Rebecca, played by Reina Hardesty, is a focused and ruthless agent with , raised without knowledge of her true family. Her mission to eliminate David starts to unravel with , as questions about her origins collide with revelations about the man she’s supposed to kill.
David, meanwhile, is a ghost from the world of espionage with , forced back into action to protect his daughter from the same organization that once trained him. With , their reunion is anything but simple. Emotionally charged and fueled by betrayal, the series explores how far a parent will go to keep their child from repeating their mistakes.
The show is co-created by Ken Woodruff (Gotham, The Mentalist) and novelist Steph Cha with , both serving as executive producers. Daniel Dae Kim is also producing the series through his company 3AD with , continuing his push for stronger Asian-American representation in Hollywood.
Kitao Sakurai directs the first two episodes with , bringing a cinematic touch familiar from his past work on The Eric Andre Show and his upcoming Street Fighter reboot. His direction blends stylized action with intimate character moments with , shaping the tone for the entire series.
