Ariana Grande and Josh Gad Join Animated Musical Oh, the Places You’ll Go!

Info in Movie News | Ariana Grande and Josh Gad are officially on board for Warner Bros. Pictures Animation’s upcoming feature Oh, the Places You’ll Go!, a musical adaptation of Dr. Seuss’s beloved final book. With a powerhouse team behind it, this whimsical adventure is shaping up to be a colorful, emotional, and musical ride like no other.

According to Animation Magazine, movie's plot is about a young explorer who embarks on a journey that changes his life, experiencing the emotional highs and lows of the world that was just beyond his home. The character is a totally re-imagined and re-interpreted version of a book that revealed a universal message of the power of character, self-realization, and decision, thus it gave a timeless tale to all ages. Although the full plot remains secret, the hero will be introduced to a number of peculiar, lovely, and tricky characters along the journey, who will be impersonated by a group of actors headed by Grande and Gad.

Jon M. Chu, widely known for his works like Wicked and In the Heights, is co-directing the animated movie with Jill Culton, the latter being the creator of Abominable and Open Season. It has now become Chu’s first venture into the world of animation, a new achievement for the director who is still very much the king of musical theatrics. Rob Lieber, who wrote Peter Rabbit and Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, is responsible for the screenplay.

Moreover, the original songs for the movie will be composed by the musical twosome of Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, who have won the Oscars and Grammys, and are also the creators of the music for The Greatest Showman and Dear Evan Hansen. The songs they are to contribute can be seen as the emotional part of the movie, besides them bringing the spirit of Dr. Seuss’s poetic rhythm alive.

Grande and Gad teased their involvement on Instagram by posting photos with their faces hidden behind scripts. “We are dreaming up something very very special for you,” Gad wrote in his caption. Grande simply captioned her photo with, “🧚🏻 Oh, the Places You’ll Go ! 💭”

The movie is scheduled for a wide release in IMAX on March 17, 2028. Despite the long wait, it’s already generating buzz as part of a broader slate of Seuss adaptations. Warner Bros. is also preparing an animated version of The Cat in the Hat, starring Bill Hader, set to release in February 2026.

Ariana Grande, fresh off her Oscar-nominated performance as Glinda in Wicked, is set to return in the sequel Wicked: For Good, releasing this November. She is also going to be in Meet the Parents 4, where she will be co-starring with Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro. In the meantime, Josh Gad is coming back as Olaf in Disney's Frozen 3 and also doing Spaceballs 2, where he will be both the main and the producer.

Oh, the Places You’ll Go! has not yet reached the calendar year of its release, but just from the beginning of the journey, it’s becoming a big car, driving along the route of emotional storytelling, new music, and the magic of Seuss, which promises to be understandable to the audiences from everywhere!!!
