Info in Movie News | Wednesday Addams is back at Nevermore Academy, and no, she’s not thrilled about it. With new enemies lurking, a stalker sending cryptic threats, and her name now plastered all over campus like some reluctant rockstar, Wednesday’s sophomore year is shaping up to be even stranger than the last. According to The Guardian, Season 2 opens with a flash of chaos. After saving Nevermore from the undead pilgrim Joseph Crackstone in Season 1, Wednesday has earned a cult-like following among her peers. However, the goth queen of gloom is rather unimpressed. However, the goth queen of gloom is not satisfied. “I liked it better when I was feared and hated,” she grumbles, while her peers gather around her, begging for autographs. But there’s no time for admiration, or personal space. Within minutes of the first episode, we’re introduced to a fresh villain, the Kansas City Scalper. He’s a doll-collecting, serial-killing dog groomer in a velour tracksuit played with greasy ...

A24 Greenlights The Backrooms, Directed by 19-Year-Old Kane Parsons

Info in Movie News | f you’ve ever fallen down the rabbit hole of creepy internet horror, chances are you’ve stumbled across The Backrooms. Those endless yellow hallways, buzzing fluorescent lights, and an eerie sense of dread? Yep, that one. Now, A24 is taking this viral internet mythos to the big screen, and they’re handing the camera to Kane Parsons, the 19-year-old creator behind the original YouTube series.

According to Variety, the upcoming movie will be based on Parsons’ YouTube project, which took off in 2022 and quickly racked up over 190 million views. What started as a lo-fi found-footage short turned into a massive horror universe, all built around a surreal and terrifying concept: if reality glitches just the wrong way, you might fall into "The Backrooms," a liminal maze filled with flickering lights and something... lurking.

Parsons, who made the series using basic tools and a killer sense of atmosphere, is now officially the youngest director ever tapped by A24. The movie will begin production this summer. Although the plot is kept a secret, the fans anticipate the new ones to have the same disquieting mood of the originally released videos, that is to say slow-building terror, strange buildings, and horror that only gets under your skin and it's not because of the jump scares.

Two actors that are cast in the movie are Chiwetel Ejiofor alongside Renate Reinsve. Ejiofor who is most prominently remembered for his Oscar-nominated role in 12 Years a Slave, has become a recognizable face of the genre movies with his recent roles in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Venom: The Last Dance, and the upcoming The Life of Chuck which is based on a Stephen King story. Reinsve, on the other side, is the actress who has made a huge impact on the indie movie The Worst Person in the World with her lead role. She is also an A24 favorite because of her last project, A Different Man, which was a co-starring with Sebastian Stan.

Behind the scenes, the movie also has a production team that is a force to be reckoned with. James Wan and Michael Clear of Atomic Monster, the team responsible for The Conjuring universe, are producing the movie. Shawn Levy, Dan Cohen, and Dan Levine are producing through 21 Laps Entertainment. Chris Ferguson from Oddfellows Pictures is joining the production too. Also attached are Roberto Patino (from DMZ) and Chris White, who originally brought the project to Atomic Monster.

All of this signals that A24 is doubling down on original horror storytelling, but through a fresh lens. Their upcoming lineup includes Materialists, a romantic drama by Celine Song, Sorry Baby, a Sundance favorite by Eva Victor, Eddington, a western from Ari Aster, The Smashing Machine, an MMA drama by Benny Safdie, and Marty Supreme, a ping pong comedy by Josh Safdie.

The Backrooms might just be the perfect blend of internet horror and cinematic ambition, a story that started in a teenager’s bedroom and ended up on the big screen, backed by some of the most influential names in movie today. And if that doesn’t make you feel like reality is breaking apart just a little, you might already be in The Backrooms.
