According to Collider, longtime Pixar veteran Andrew Stanton is directing this next chapter. While it’s his first time in the director’s chair for a Toy Story film, Stanton’s no stranger to the franchise—he helped write all four previous installments. He’s also the creative force behind Finding Nemo and WALL-E, so fans can relax knowing the story is in capable hands. Stanton’s not only directing, he’s also back on writing duty, bringing both heart and humor to a story that’s evolving in a big way.
This time around, the toys are facing a whole new kind of challenge: the rise of digital entertainment. The upcoming sequel will explore the clash between traditional toys and the modern world of tech-obsessed kids. Expect sparks to fly as Woody, Buzz, and the rest of the gang go up against flashy, electronics-based toys that seem to be taking over. One wild twist? While Hanks is just getting started, his co-star Tim Allen (Buzz Lightyear) revealed earlier this year that he's already deep into the recording process. Speaking to Good Morning America back in January, Allen teased, “I’ve already begun, I’m in the third act now. It’s remarkable what they’ve done… I wish I could say more… Jessie’s in big trouble and needs help. It’s a really cool thing.”
