Zach Cregger, Director of Barbarian, Set to Create New Resident Evil Reboot


Info in Movie News | Resident Evil is one of the biggest franchises in all entertainment. Whether by way of fun video games or a film series that has delighted audiences for decades now, fans have plenty to anticipate with the reveal of yet another reboot.

Joining the project as writer-director is Zach Cregger. It’s also significant that there are multiple studios racing to have this reboot produced, including Warner Bros. and Netflix among the contenders, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Constantin Film will produce the project in partnership with PlayStation Productions. For those that don't know, Constantin Film has held onto the cinematic rights for the Resident Evil franchise since the late 1990s.

Also, Shay Hatten, who worked on big franchises such as John Wick: Chapter 4 and Zack Snyder's Army of the Dead, will help Cregger on the screenplay, according to reports.

The studios are shooting for a wide release with big box-office potential in large part due to Cregger’s improving stock with his 2022 cult hit, Barbarian.

Originally an actor and comedian, Cregger would prove he is more than capable of translation to the director chair.

The franchise started as a film series of capers with Mill Jovovich in the 2002 Resident Evil, which opened the world to the horrible events surrounding the Umbrella Corporation. That spawned five more sequels. Just recently, the franchise was re-booted with Resident Evil; Welcome to Raccoon City, featuring Kaya Scodelario.

A Quiet Place III Returns in 2027 With Evelyn Abbott Likely Front and Center
