Synopsis: Rurouni Kenshin Origin (2012)





Rurouni​‍​‌‍​‍‌ Kenshin: Origins is set in the beginning of the Meiji era in Japan. It narrates the journey of Himura Kenshin, a former assassin named Battosai who has made a firm decision never to take a life again. Kenshin wanders the Japanese countryside aiming at offering help, protection, and support to the weak and at the same time, he is deeply remorseful for the lives he had taken. The story unfolds initially with Kenshin coming with Kaoru Kamiya, the owner of the dojo, and other characters such as Sanosuke Sagara, Megumi Takani, and Yahiko Myojin to the Kamiya Dojo.

Kenshin is reliving his old life as Battosai when he has to deal with his past enemies like Jin-e, a savage killer hired by Kanryū Takeda, a corrupt and rich tycoon. The storyline is interspersed with blood-thirsty fights, moral dilemmas, and the main character Kenshin's internal conflict of fulfilling his vow of not killing even when it is in defense of his friends and the peace he cherishes. Besides, the narrative delves into the historical background of the Meiji Restoration and the resulting tension due to the downfall of the Shogunate and the rise of the new ​‍​‌‍​‍‌government.


Character Details:

  1. Himura Kenshin (Takeru Satoh):

    • It's​‍​‌‍​‍‌ the story of a killer turning over a new leaf after the war, a man who has pledged never to take a life again, and now is traveling with a poor little boy through what could arguably be the most barren and desolate countryside that a city can have.
    • A very talented and skilled swordsman named the Battosai who was one of the main fighters for the revolution's independence.
    • Kenshin, torn by his brutal and unpredictable past, is the kind of person who wishes to see his comrades safe and victorious in the ​‍​‌‍​‍‌end.
  2. Kamiya Kaoru (Emi Takei):

    • One​‍​‌‍​‍‌ of the accomplishments of her personality that she had inherited from her late father is a teacher of what she registers the Kamiya Dojo on her account.
    •  Her main Kendo is the Aikido which is only the most basic and rarely tries to apply some of its principles, and she loves those sports and ​‍​‌‍​‍‌friends.
  3. Sagara Sanosuke (Munetaka Aoki):

    • A street fighter turned friend, he fights off attacks from the evil Kura
    • Very agile and capable of fighting as well- those are two of his many powerful qualities​.
  4. Takani Megumi (Yū Aoi):

    • Her​‍​‌‍​‍‌ family was a famous healer family and thus, she being a skilled healer only a doctor, was bribed to make opium for Kanryu, a drug baron.
    • Himura Kenshin helped her and she later joined the family of the lady doctor who was sold under the name, Tsumura ​‍​‌‍​‍‌Atei​.
  5. Myojin Yahiko (Taketo Tanaka):

    • A young boy and the only student at the Kamiya Dojo.
    • Eager to learn and grow under Kaoru's guidance​.
  6. Saitō Hajime (Yōsuke Eguchi):

    • Once​‍​‌‍​‍‌ was a soldier of the pro-Imperial forces, at present he is the leader of the church in the hometown of Meiji-like navy forces.
    • He is famous for his fearless nature and excellent swordfighting ​‍​‌‍​‍‌skills.
  7. Udō Jin-e (Kōji Kikkawa):

    • One of Kanryū's men, a survivor of the Battle of Toba-Fushimi.
    • Uses a technique that can paralyze opponents, posing a significant threat to Kenshin​.
  8. Gein (Gō Ayano), Inui Banjin (Genki Sudo):

    • Other notable adversaries working under Kanryū, each with their unique skills and threats.
