Info In Movie News | HBO has issued a statement on its social media regarding the House of the Dragon leaks of the second season's final episode which happened before the official broadcast on Sunday (4/8).
The creators disclosed that the leak was a result of a third-party distributor. HBO, however, did not indicate which region's distributor was the leak source.
"We understand that scenes from the season finale of House of the Dragon have circulated on several social media platforms," an HBO release quoted The Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday (31/7) read.
"The scenes were shared after being accidentally dispatched by an international third-party distributor," they informed.
In response, HBO is taking an active part in the issue, double checking social media for leaked footage and erasing it when found.
"HBO is on top of their game in the aggressive take-down of clips from the internet. Meanwhile, fans can watch the full episode this Sunday night (U.S. time) on HBO and Max," they pointed out.
Some time ago, people uploaded several videos containing scenes from House of the Dragon, season two, episode finale, to TikTok.
The videos were made by recording the scenes with another device and then posting the videos on TikTok yesterday. It was mentioned that the TikTok account for the offender has no other videos, which can be interpreted as the account being used just to spread the episode.
The account and videos have been taken down and deactivated. Nevertheless, over 100,000 views have been gained from the leaked videos alone.
Despite the measures, these were not effective enough since the videos were reposted and disseminated on [social media platform].
House of the Dragon has been leaked multiple times prior to the final episode, besides this latest incident. The same problem came up before the debut of the finale of the first season of the Game of Thrones prequel series in October 2022.
Back then, HBO mentioned that the leaks were likely originated from their distribution partners in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. They also made an effort to take the leaked content offline and expressed their regret over the incident which took place two days before the official broadcast.
The official airing of the last episode of the second season of House of the Dragon will be on Sunday (4/8), and it is also available on HBO GO.
