The film will be directed by and co-written with the Gilmore Girls and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel creator Amy Sherman-Palladino. The story centers on a witty and curious six-year-old girl who lives on the “tippy-top floor” of New York City’s Plaza Hotel with her nanny, her pug named Weenie, and her turtle Skipperdee. Going up star Mae Schenk will be the one to represent Eloise, really giving life to the smart and naughty nature which is the main trait of the character. It is a surprising twist for the actor, who is the least expected to be the villain in Deadpool, Free Guy, and The Adam Project, Reynolds’ new role as the villain.
This new Netflix movie is a re-imagining of a well-loved children’s classic that also intends to keep the funny side and the loving nature of the original story. Sherman-Palladino collaborated with Marks to write the script and also with Woolverton, who is famous for her scripts of Disney classics like Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King. The small independent movie studio MRC took over the movie rights of Eloise in 2019 and will work with Netflix, Handmade Films, and the Thompson estate to produce the movie.
