Netflix Unleashes Troll 2 Trailer, The Return of Norway’s Monster Saga

Nora and Andreas stand on a snowy cliff as the colossal megatroll rises behind them, its massive shadow covering the Norwegian landscape.

Info in Movie News | Netflix officially brings back Norway’s biggest monster with the long-awaited sequel, Troll 2, set to premiere globally on December 1, 2025. The new chapter, which follows the success of the first movie that broke streaming records with more than 103 million views, is said to bring a funny, mythological, and destructive massive-scale adventure. Initial audience tweets position it as Netflix’s Norse take on Godzilla vs. Kong, combining a huge spectacle with the offbeat vibe of Scandinavian myth.

According to The Playlist, Troll 2 once again follows brave adventurers Nora, Andreas, and Captain Kris as they confront a terrifying new threat, a monstrous “megatroll” that awakens beneath Norway’s frozen wilderness. When the creature begins a trail of devastation, the trio must reunite and team up with new allies to prevent their homeland from plunging into chaos. Director Roar Uthaug, who returns after helming the first Troll (2022), has described the sequel as “bigger in every sense, bigger monsters, bigger emotions, and way more destruction.” The tone of the trailer mirrors this energy, parodying the grand style of MonsterVerse blockbusters while keeping the heart and humor of Nordic adventure.

The movie recalls familiar faces of the tightly-loved characters, Nora Tidemann played by Ine Marie Wilmann, Andreas Isaksen portrayed by Kim Falck, and Captain Kristoffer “Kris” Holm interpreted by Mads Sjøgård Pettersen. This time they are accompanied by Sara Khorami portraying Marion Auryn Rhadani, a government official joining the team, and Anne Krigsvoll portraying Esther Tiller, a historian whose knowledge of ancient legends is deep. With these additions, Troll 2 delves into its mythology, exploring the consequences of ancient folklore interacting with the modern world. The interplay of the three characters returning to the fold, especially the cool and courageous Nora and the nervously humorous Andreas, which is the center of the story, is still there and it gives the story a certain warmth in the midst of the turmoil.

The official synopsis by Netflix states that the movie depicts the team’s frantic efforts to stop the megatroll’s destructive spree across Norway. As time ticks away and havoc is wreaked, Nora and her co- workers unearth deeply buried secrets of Norse history that have the power to save or destroy their homeland. Director Uthaug and writer Espen Aukan, who also penned the first installment along with the director, not only introduce more layers of genuine Scandinavian mythology but also keep the action visually stunning and grounded. The production was done in different places of Norway and Budapest which gives the movie a grand and glamorous look of a big Hollywood monster project.

The very first Troll turned out to be a worldwide hit quite unexpectedly when it was released in December 2022. Besides, it has a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 90% and it was the most-watched non-English-language movie on Netflix worldwide in the period immediately after the release. Emotional storytelling, thrilling set pieces, and a little bit of magic from the folklore are the reasons why it was so different from the other movies of the creature feature genre and attracted such a wide audience. Now these three elements are to be found in the sequel as well. Only this time they are on a much larger scale. The first part of the movie is packed with so much material that one can think the following episode will have more intense conflicts, risky emotional stakes, and amazing visual effects that will make the huge trolls look extremely real.

Motion Blur’s producer Espen Horn mentioned that the creative team had the same Nordic spirit for the sequel, which is the main thing that made the first movie to be liked by the audiences, but this time they wanted to raise the stakes on every level. He said that the production quickly changed from a modest continuation to a daring, lively project that is all about Nora’s fearless “let’s go” vibe. At the same time, producer Kristian Strand Sinkerud was suggesting that Troll 2 will be a combination of the unexpected thrills, snow adventures, and the mischievous chaos kind of the wild energy that the fans of this growing monster franchise have come to expect.

There's a brief glimpse in the trailer of an explosive fight between two huge trolls, thus setting up a dramatic clash which the fans were not expecting. The teaser is packed with massive snowy landscapes, one can hear the destruction happening, and there are some emotional moments but very briefly, each moment is a demonstration of Netflix Nordic's ambition to create its own monster legacy. However, what really isolates Troll 2 from the rest is not just the monstrous scale but its human aspect: characters who confront the unthinkable with bravery, wit, and compassion.

In the case of the first movie being a love letter to the Norwegian mountains and legends, Troll 2 appears like an outright party of disorder, bravery, and filmic spectacle. This is a follow-up which not only retains the untamed nature of its original but also goes beyond the local level to become a global phenomenon. As December approaches, fans worldwide are counting down to see if the megatroll can conquer Netflix’s global charts once again. With its mix of mythology, mayhem, and emotional depth, Troll 2 might just become one of the year’s biggest streaming blockbusters.
