Info in Movie News | The Manipulated”, an upcoming Disney+ original, is set to deliver an intense fusion of psychological suspense and emotional drama, a confrontation between two of Korea’s top actors, Ji Chang Wook and Doh Kyung Soo (D.O. EXO), that is simply mesmerizing. This new show revolves around Park Tae Joong, a normal guy whose life is turned upside down when he is falsely accused and later imprisoned. The only person behind the suffering is Ahn Yo Han, a man with a brilliant mind but lacking in empathy who planned everything in great detail. Soon after, the story of an innocent jail term magnifies into a terrifying retaliation and manipulation game.
According to Soompi, the show illustrates Tae Joong’s emotional turmoil as he plunges into darkness when he learns the truth about his framed conviction. In a bid to regain his life, he is so enthusiastic that he promises to take down the person who brought about his downfall. Apart from Ji Chang Wook and Doh Kyung Soo, the show’s cast features Lee Kwang Soo as Do Kyung, a mysterious client who gets involved in Yo Han’s schemes, and Jo Yoon Soo and Kim Jong Soo as Tae Joong’s friends. The complicated world of these characters is the main premise of the show, where trust, morality, and survival are constantly under scrutiny.
Ahn Yo Han is not just an ordinary villain; he is the CEO of the most elite private security service that is exclusive to the richest one percent of the world. He is a twisted mastermind under a shiny professional facade and he revels in controlling reality at the most basic level. To do this, he is fabricating evidence, changing the scenes of the crime, and, generally, removing the traces of illegal acts for his clients of the most influential circles. In the preview, Yo Han uttered the scary thing, "I will fabricate it as if it never happened," which, among other things, is a very clear pointer of his disquieting power to change reality as he wishes. On the other hand, Tae Joong, the person who initially had a plan to start a small garden café, becomes furious and full of determination to find out the truth of his arrest as he unravels the lies more deeply.
“The Manipulated” goes far beyond the typical revenge story to become a psychological dive into the theme of control and the human mind’s vulnerability under severe pressure. The script is by Oh Sang Ho, who is also the writer of Taxi Driver and The Roundup: Punishment. The series explores the deep and dark aspects of the blurred line between justice and obsession. Park Shin Woo and Kim Chang Ju are the directors of this movie which combines the elements of harsh reality and visually poetic tension. The art directors have designed a world where the feeling of paranoia is heightened through each and every character’s movement, camera angle, and silence thereby the audience is compelled to figure out who the real puppeteer is.
In terms of visual appearance, the movie-level production quality of "The Manipulated" is a reflection of Disney+’s commitment to cinematic storytelling. The official poster features the shattered faces of Tae Joong and Yo Han, one raging with fire, the other filled with a chilling cold, to signify the fierce fight that is going to be the union of hunter and prey. The trailer is filled with the glimpses of the high-speed chases, the brutal fights, and the cat-and-mouse game which is a source of complete unpredictability for the audiences. By subdued colors and precise lighting, the camera work reveals the moral emptiness of Yo Han’s world and the dire situation of Tae Joong’s struggle.
Doh Kyung Soo’s transformation has drawn particular attention. After winning the hearts of the audience with his soft and charming characters in 100 Days My Prince and Bad Prosecutor, he goes beyond the limit and represents a full-fledged villain for the first time. The actor revealed that he spent a good deal of time to understand the mental state of Yo Han in order to portray a scared yet strangely relatable character. In contrast, Ji Chang Wook similarly gives an emotionally moving portrayal of Tae Joong as a character who is not only struggling with enemies outside but also with the inner turmoil. As a matter of fact, their fight scene has been referred to by the reviewers and the audience as being emotionally very intense and authentic.
“The Manipulated” will be available only on Disney+ from 5th November 2025. It will be releasing the first four episodes at the time of the launch and then two new episodes every week until the 12 episodes are completed. The series will be available to watch anywhere in the world via Hulu in some regions. Given its A-list cast, compelling writing, and stunning direction, many anticipate that this will be one of Disney+ Korea’s most ambitious and talked-about projects of the year. For fans of dark thrillers, mind games, and emotionally driven storytelling, “The Manipulated” is shaping up to be a must-watch event this fall.
