Info in Movie News | Netflix has decided to add another drama series that freshens up its historical dramas collection. House of Guinness, which is on its way to being one of the most talked-about Netflix releases this year, is a biopic that traces the beginnings of the globally renowned drink, an upcoming limited series by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, will be available worldwide from September 25, 2025. The series, which was first announced today at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival, traces the chaos, desire, and heritage of one of the least talked about yet most impactful families in the world: the Guinness dynasty, the giant behind the four most recognisable breweries in the world.
According to TV Insider, the story of the illustrious Guinness family is not about the early misadventures of brewing but starts with the death of the man most responsible for the success of Guinness, Sir Benjamin Guinness. His testament acts like a spark that ignites a curtain of dramatic changes that will affect not only his progeny but also the entire city of Dublin.
The story is told through eight episodes, as they intertwine the ideas of family loyalty, treachery, and yearning. Whether the story were set in the 19th century Dublin or New York, House of Guinness would still be describing a family that had been put in a very funny and very bright way by their money and obligations to the upper canvas of the city. The storyline of the show revolves around the four siblings of the Guinness family, namely, Arthur (Anthony Boyle), Edward (Louis Partridge), Anne (Emily Fairn), and Ben (Fionn O'Shea). Every one of them having their own take on what should be done with the tremendous fortune and power left behind and thus they are not only fighting against each other in their mansions but also with those whom they meet outside.
By illustrating the harsh yet captivating life of post-war Birmingham in Peaky Blinders, Steven Knight, who is known for this, now applies his unique storytelling skills to Dublin and charms the audience there. Steven Knight has added his distinctive narrating style to Dublin with House of Guinness. These fresh episodes delve deeply into the history of the Guinness family, a lineage which, according to the records, is intertwined with the subjects of riches, difficulties, power, and sadness. Knight, with his deep and enduring fascination for their tale, wants to present these characters to the whole world in a way that would be the same as his previous work, which was very detailed and intense.
The mood is immediately conveyed by the first trailer of the Netflix release, just by looking at it. Sir Benjamin's funeral is shown, the reading of the will following, and off the chain of backstabbing, character feud, and funny love affairs goes.
The action that is shown in the trailer is treacherous and violent and refers to conduct of the family in the dark alleys of the city, inter-fight over the family, and panorama of the beautiful Irish nature. In such a way the viewer is seduced to that show which introduces the viewer to the inner family-related and outer-historical stakes.
Notably, the cast includes an amazing group full of experienced and skilled actors, most of whom the audience can identify from their previous works. In the recently released film Arthur based on true events, the main character Arthur Guinness will be portrayed by Anthony Boyle (Masters of the Air), and Louis Partridge (Enola Holmes) has been confirmed as Edward's name. Emily Fairn (The Responder), assists in the role of Anne, and Fionn O’Shea (Normal People), is offered as Benjamin. James Norton (Happy Valley) is acting as Sean Rafferty, a stranger with his own mysteries and motives. Out of the TV land is Jack Gleeson, just as he was to be most noted for Joffrey of Game of Thrones, back again but this time as Byron Hedges. While Dervla Kirwan, Niamh McCormack, Seamus O’Hara, and Michael McElhatton complete the wonderful cast.
Tom Shankland (The Serpent) is the director of the first five episodes, whereas Mounia Akl (Costa Brava, Lebanon) is the director of the final three. The producing company Kudos is also quite eager about the firepower-strong producing team, with Simon Knight being joined at the executive producing post by Karen Wilson, Elinor Day, Martin Haines, and Ivana Lowell.
Most of the other historical series in that genre of field were primarily either fictionalized myths or loosely based on some literary works. Nevertheless, "House of Guinness" is still able to distinguish itself by sticking to an extremely thorough factual history. In many ways, what the Guinness family was not, was just another rich family: They were central to Dublin’s identity, the city both loved them for their generosity and watched them closely due to their influence. Literally, by tracking down what happened after Sir Benjamin’s demise, the series depicts that a successful division of power among crafty heirs results in rapid fortunes turning.
Moreover, the influence of Knight's fascination with the narrative of industrial might, the struggle of classes and individual ambition could also be felt in the show. While Peaky Blinders revolved around Birmingham gangsters and street politics, House of Guinness profoundly changes the approach by concentrating on a family dynasty dealing with its own internal disputes, yet, struggling to keep up with the demands of a global brand.
Leaving family drama aside, the program still has a lot to offer. It will provide an in-depth look of 19th-century Irish society. The show's background is patterned with social unrest, the dominating role of religion, and the radical difference between the rich upper class and the poor lower class of Dublin. The famous brewery, which has been both a cause of wealth and a source of criticism, is the place from which everything comes.
If we consider the likes of The Crown and the gritty Peaky Blinders, fans of these and similar historical sagas are likely to find House of Guinness near the perfect spot to be their next choice. The series' combination of power struggles, emotional profundity, and cinematographic expansiveness makes it one of Netflix's most anticipated releases of 2025.
Then is it that the offspring of the Guinness family will assume their father's empire and conservation, or will ambition rip them apart? Audiences will find out when all eight episodes of House of Guinness arrive on Netflix on September 25. Until then, fans can raise a glass, perhaps of something dark and frothy, to what looks like another landmark drama from Steven Knight.
