Solo Leveling Season 3 Will Explore Jinwoo's Emotions Beyond His Power

Solo Leveling Season 3 Will Explore Jinwoo's Emotions Beyond His Power

Info in Movie News | Just after the Anime of the Year award it received, Solo Leveling is coming back with a new third season which is going to be even more powerful and definitely going to explore the story, as well as the protagonist, in a very new and exciting way. Following two electrifying seasons of continuous action and high-speed power boosting, the anime is set to gently ease off to get a better understanding of Sung Jinwoo, the central character, and the concept of being the strongest.

According to ScreenRant, Solo Leveling’s animation director Atsushi Kaneko recently revealed that the upcoming season will explore a very different side of Jinwoo, one not tied to raw strength or flashy combat scenes, but to emotional growth. Kaneko explained that while seasons one and two focused on Jinwoo's rise from the weakest Hunter to an S-Rank powerhouse, season three is where fans will start to see cracks beneath the surface.

“In Season One, Jinwoo had nothing and so he fought hard to gain things as a result. By the end of Season Two, he’s grown powerful and can beat all kinds of enemies. However, that power comes at a price,” Kaneko said during an interview at Anime Expo.

The price, internal conflict. Kaneko suggested that Jinwoo might start thinking about the emotional things he lost on the path to getting stronger. Although he has definitely constructed a Shadow Army, rescued his mother, and ascended to the highest position in the Hunter community, Jinwoo still hasn't found that "something".

Jinwoo's tale is, broadly speaking, a tale of survival and development. He did all his training, fighting, and killing of his enemies without any anger or desire for revenge, actually, it was done just to obey the tasks which were clear to him. Now that most of them have been fulfilled, the question is who Sung Jinwoo would be without the System to lead him?

Kaneko emphasized that future episodes will show more of Jinwoo’s emotional state. “It’s less about a change in Jinwoo's appearance and more about his internal growth, his integrity and emotional state,” he said.

Season three will present a major shift in tone.  Although the fights are guaranteed to still be legendary, they will also be accompanied by more reflection and personal issues. The narrative will start to delve into the concept of having unthinkable power and how that burden of power changes Jinwoo’s bonds with people, his choices, and his understanding of himself.

It is true that Solo Leveling has been a darkish story throughout its existence, with the theme of betrayal and almost mystical danger, but this new season could be the one when we get to see Jinwoo’s feelings and vulnerability exposed for the first time. In a grim setting, a character who was only depicted as suppressing or denying his feelings for most of the story to survive and achieve his goals is now confronted with a totally new challenge - going through the process of recognizing his emotions.

His journey isn’t finished just because Jinwoo became an S-Rank. Actually, it is rather moving into a more grown-up and thoughtful stage. Kaneko's ideas indicate that Solo Leveling is no longer a simple story of power or system-based development, rather it is about what follows.

Season 3 could very well be the anime’s most impactful yet, not because of the monsters Jinwoo fights, but because of the emotional battles he can no longer ignore.
