Info in Movie News | Universal and Blumhouse are diving deeper into animatronic nightmares with Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, and this time, they're bringing back two horror legends. Skeet Ulrich is officially joining the cast alongside Matthew Lillard, sparking major excitement among longtime fans of the Scream franchise. The announcement dropped just ahead of the movie’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2025, and was paired with the release of its first full trailer.
According to Collider, the sequel will significantly up the stakes, bringing more action, more scares, and bigger storylines. Lillard will reprise his role as William Afton, the sinister mind behind the deadly animatronics. Ulrich’s character hasn’t been revealed yet, but the mystery is only adding to the hype. After years of fan wish lists and online speculation, seeing Ulrich and Lillard share the screen again is the kind of horror reunion nobody saw coming, but everyone wanted.
The cast lineup gets even more intriguing with the addition of several new faces. Teo Briones, who will soon appear in Final Destination: Bloodlines, joins the cast alongside Shadow and Bone star Freddy Carter. Wayne Knight, a man who is widely recognized as the actor from Jurassic Park, is also movie The Bye Bye Man along with young rising horror star Mckenna Grace (Annabelle Comes Home). Grace, especially, will also play in Scream 7, thus these two beloved horror universes get new fun and meta connections.
Returning from the first movie are Josh Hutcherson as Mike Schmidt, Elizabeth Lail, Piper Rubio as Abby, and Theodus Crane. This time, the story expands well beyond the walls of Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. Abby is clearly the main character when it comes to bringing back the animatronics, who are definitely not comfortable in their strange pizzeria anymore. They are loose, and based on the initial clips they are definitely spreading their fear in the neighbourhood.
Instead of the first movie's limited survival-horror vibe, FNaF 2 definitely goes for a wilder and more disorderly mood. The follow-up movie seems to unveil more of the game's lore while also taking the prompt in some brave new ways. With William Afton back in play, and Abby at the heart of it all, it’s clear that nobody is safe.
What makes this project stand out, however, is the sheer nostalgia power. Fans of Wes Craven’s Scream have been clamoring for a true Skeet Ulrich and Matthew Lillard reunion for decades. While Ulrich’s Billy Loomis did appear in ghostly hallucinations in Scream 5 and 6, and Lillard is set to return in Scream 7, this marks their first major on-screen pairing since 1996. For horror fans, that’s a big deal.
Universal and Blumhouse haven't set any official date of release yet, however, it seems that the fans are already very eager. The sequel to the game looks to have all the potential for exciting whether you are a Frosty Night at Freddy’s player, a horror fan, or just chasing the adrenaline. Be on a lookout for further disclosures from SDCC 2025 and watch out for Collider to get up to date with the news.
