Info in Movie News | Fans of gritty, high-octane anime can finally celebrate, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is officially getting a second season. Netflix and Studio TRIGGER have confirmed that production is underway for the follow-up to the 2022 cult hit. Season one has not only been one of the most memorable but also it has brought us the tragic story of David Martinez, the next series, however, will be devoted to another character and a new storyline that will definitely plunge deeper into the vibrant yet dangerous Night City.
According to ScreenRant, the initial teaser for the second season of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was disclosed at Anime Expo 2025. Later, Netflix corroborated with a statement. Although details of the plot are not so clear, the trailer goes along the lines of a deeply emotional and bloodthirsty atmosphere. It also hints at new characters who are still likely to be the bearers of the pain and pressure that had been the David’s journey.
Instead of telling David’s story, the sequel will be about a new protagonist, who is trying to find his way in a similar but more dangerous place. The new season has been dubbed by the showrunners "a bare account of the redemption and revenge," which is the very core of the Cyberpunk universe. This change in direction not only makes the show able to take the world of Cyberpunk 2077 into new territories but also delve deeper into different aspects of Night City’s crime world through another perspective.
On a practical level, a number of going-to-be-again personalities are the ones from the original season. For instance, Kai Ikarashi, who was a storyboard artist and animation director on the first season, will now take over as the director of this one. Bartosz Sztybor, the original screenwriter, is back to pen the new narrative. Ichigo Kanno, known for her work as a key animator and animation director, is taking over as character designer. Meanwhile, Masahiko Otsuka joins once again as a script collaborator. The production is still being supervised by studio TRIGGER, CD PROJEKT RED, and Netflix.
Season two has set 10 episodes as its target, that is the same number of episodes as season one. The creators attempt to rise the emotional stakes and power along with a plot full of cruel fighting, cyborges and the characters' inner conflicts. The change of the main characters notwithstanding, the very nature of Edgerunners remains the same, the story of the harsh and untamed society's price of survival is told.
The Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is the next tale in the universe that is set to be unleashed. To back the above, a short series cartoon book or manga named Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Madness, by Bartosz Sztybor, and the artist is Asano who did BNA: Brand New Animal, is being issued online. The book has 7 languages that it will be translated into, and Dark Horse is going to print it in English.
Regardless of being a big fan who is coming back or someone who is new and attracted by Night City’s seedy charm, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 seems to be ready for pushing the sci-fi storytelling limits once again. The sequel that brings a youthful, daring group of artists, a new storyline, and uncompromising movie tone, definitely plans to register itself firmly in the anime movie scene even more strongly.
