Info in Movie News | Wednesday Addams is back, and things are about to get even darker. While Season 2 of Wednesday doesn’t drop until August 6, Netflix has given fans a chilling preview to hold them over. At Tudum, they revealed the first six minutes of the upcoming season, and it’s everything fans could’ve hoped for, creepy, mysterious, and very Wednesday.
According to Collider, the sneak peek shows what Wednesday was up to during the summer break. Surprise, she didn’t spend it relaxing. Instead, she wakes up in the basement of a serial killer’s house, surrounded by dozens of creepy dolls, including one she later gifts to Enid (Emma Meyers), her bright and bubbly roommate at Nevermore Academy. From her narration, we learn that she’s spent the summer mastering her psychic abilities, and now she’s set her sights on confronting a serial killer she's been obsessed with since childhood.
That killer is played by The Sixth Sense star Haley Joel Osment, and yes, Wednesday figures him out fast. In true Addams fashion, she turns the tables with eerie confidence, ending the clip with a chilling line, asking if he wants to "play dolls." It's pure Wednesday, deadpan, clever, and terrifying.
This season continues to center on Jenna Ortega’s brilliant take on Wednesday Addams. For the first time, Wednesday returns to the same school for a second year, something she’s never done before. That small detail says a lot. Even if she’d never admit it, Nevermore Academy clearly made an impact.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, creators Miles Millar and Alfred Gough talked about the show’s shift in tone. “Season 2 definitely has some moments which are more straightforward horror,” Millar said. “We want to make sure that it’s never torture porn, but that there are real stakes, and it feels scary at times.”
Gough added that the story will be “more complex” this time around, with a broader world and more characters to explore. One of the biggest changes? Wednesday’s younger brother Pugsley, played by Isaac Ordonez, is joining her at Nevermore, now with cool electrokinetic powers. Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzmán are back as Morticia and Gomez, and they aren't alone. This season has a great list of guest stars, Billie Piper and Steve Buscemi among them, that gives more life to the darkly idyllic world.
The first season was an extraordinary success as it was rated 73% on Rotten Tomatoes and became one of Netflix's highest-rated series. With higher stakes, deeper mysteries, and an even darker vibe, Season 2 is shaping up to be an unmissable follow-up.
You can stream Season 1 of Wednesday now on Netflix, and catch the chilling first six minutes of Season 2 ahead of its full premiere on August 6.
