Rihanna, as the voice of Smurfette, is the emotional and heroic heart of the story. The movie is going to represent more aspects of her personality as she becomes the leader of the rescue mission of the Smurf people beyond their enchanted forest.

The movie opens when Papa Smurf (John Goodman) is suddenly taken by the evil wizard Gargamel and Razamel, their voices are JP Karliak. Smurfette is the one who takes the lead and meanwhile, she and the Smurfs decided to go to the real world in order to find their leader. They done newly made friends, faced the unexpected, and set out to discover their destiny.

The script was by Pam Brady, who is known for her work on South Park, Team America: World Police, and the coming up The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants. Nickelodeon Animation Studio is managing the production, while Cinesite is doing the animation. The overall look of the movie is still very much like the original designs created by Peyo, however, it now also includes modern animation techniques along with colorful and rich backgrounds that mix fantasy with reality.

Largely speaking, the picture casts Smurfette character in a completely different role, as it turns out she is far from being merely the female Smurf. Instead, she appears as a strong, inquisitive and capable leader, who is set on finding her true self and the part she plays in the larger Smurf universe. The way Rihanna performs the role gives it both warmth and laughter, plus it is definitely a new take on the character for the fans.

Equally, alongside this, those who will go to the theater will also have a chance to see a fresh SpongeBob SquarePants short named Order Up that will precede the Smurfs movie. Sean Charmatz is the director and Paul Tibbitt is the co-writer. The short is a totally non-verbal one, revolving around SpongeBob having far too much fun with the Krusty Krab’s order-up bell which, however, annoys Squidward. It is an artistic, lighthearted comedy piece that will definitely satisfy and renew younger audiences.

On June 28, Smurfs will have its world premiere in Brussels, Belgium, the event that can be considered as a great homage to the place where the franchise’s European roots are. After that, the movie will be premiered in U.S. theaters on July 18, with the releases being expected worldwide to soon follow.

In case you are a blue crew’s old fan, or you have just recently gotten acquainted with the magical world of the little blue fellows, this new perspective on the Smurfs universe is full of laughter, emotions, and a dash of Rihanna’s charisma.
