Paramount Pictures has officially delayed the animated feature The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender to October 9, 2026. The movie was initially scheduled for a January release in its year, but now is moving and is set to release in the fall where the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles sequel was supposed to be.
According to Collider, this new movie is set in the years that follow the original animation series. Aang, now a grown-up and voiced by Eric Nam, remains the Avatar in the world that is still healing after the war. Even with Fire Lord Ozai's defeat, peace can never be of long duration, and a new threat is emerging, one that could once again disrupt the fragile balance between the four nations.
Not missing the presence of his group, Aang is joined by his friends namely Katara, Toph, and Sokka. Jessica Matten provides the voice for the wise and determined Katara, Dionne Quan reprises her role as the tough yet lovable Toph, and Román Zaragoza gives life to Sokka. The team is back together, only this time, the tone of their journey is more of the dark and mature one, perhaps more dangerous as well.
The hiring of Dave Bautista as the movie's enigmatic new villain only increases people's interest in the movie. Although Paramount hasn't disclosed the character he will portray, fans are certain to find a fierce antagonist. Bautista's excellent performances in Blade Runner 2049, Glass , and as Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy have demonstrated that he is capable of balancing muscles and skills as well as emotions very well.
The forthcoming movie is one element of a more ambitious strategy to enlarge the Avatar universe. There is a part of the press release where Paramount and Nickelodeon are mentioned to have made public the arrival of Avatar Studios, a new section committed to creating fresh stories based on the characters of Avatar: The Last Airbender.
