Despite the new season of the anime still being a couple of months away, Crunchyroll and Aniplex have decided to take it from the top, showing the movie that got many international fans into the anime. Demon Slayer: Mugen Train is going to be back at the theaters in the U.S. and Canada from May 14 in 4K definition, with one of the main episodes of the series turning the most emotional and thus accommodating the audience.

According to Collider, the re-release in cinemas will have two versions available: the original Japanese audio with English subtitles and a full English dub. Tickets go on sale starting April 30. For longtime fans, this is a rare opportunity to see Rengoku’s legendary final stand in theaters again. For those who are new to the series, they've got just enough time to watch all the previous parts that have been released before the next big one comes out later this year.

The movie had its first screening in 2020 and was immediately s a massive success among the audience. The movie is about the journey of Tanjiro, Nezuko, Zenitsu, Inosuke who, while being on a train, collaborate with Kyojuro Rengoku the Flame Hashira to defeat a demon that is haunting the train. A mission that began as the usual one turns into one of the most intense of the series that nearly all the feelings of the audience are involved. The Mugen Train's heartbreaking yet powerful conclusion resonated with anime enthusiasts all over the world.

But the movie’s impact wasn’t just emotional. Financially, it was a game-changer. Mugen Train earned over $500 million globally, outpacing every Hollywood release that year. It went on to become the most successful Japanese movie of all time and thus dethroned Spirited Away, which has held the position since 2001. The breathtaking success of One Piece movie: Red was not enough to keep up with Mugen Train's fantastic ticket sales even in Japan.

This theatrical return also serves a strategic purpose. It builds anticipation for Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle, the first of a trilogy of movies that will adapt the manga’s final arc. Announced right after the conclusion of Season 4, Infinity Castle continues the main story and will be directed by Haruo Sotozaki, who also directed Mugen Train and the majority of the anime episodes. The release dates for parts two and three of the trilogy are still unknown.
