Info In Movie News | Jisoo from BLACKPINK has been officially confirmed to star in the zombie series titled Newtopia. Her character Kang Young-ju is to be the girlfriend of Lee Jae-yoon played by Park Jeong-min. Coupang Play, the platform which will release the series, confirmed the pair as the leading actors of Newtopia in a statement to Yonhap on Thursday (1/8).
The story is going to be about Lee Jae-yoon (Park Jeong-min) and Kang Young-ju (Jisoo) walking through Seoul's streets which have been turned into a dangerous place by zombies.
Young-ju is a low-rank employee who is waiting for her partner Jae-yoon, who is currently doing his military service, to be discharged. She is extremely irritated that Jae-yoon doesn't even seem to realize how upset she is.
Then Young-ju gets bad news about his relationship in the middle of all this. She decides to meet Jae-yoon personally but instead, she finds out that a zombie outbreak has wiped out the population. She has to become extremely strong as she struggles for survival.
Jae-yoon, still, after a failed attempt to take alternative service in the defense industry, joins the military at 26. He is very anxious about the future and is obsessed with his girlfriend, which makes him come up with an idea for what to do with Young-ju.
He is uncertain of himself at first, but then he gradually steps up to the challenge, as he and Young-ju confront the zombies.
This piece of information comes approximately a year after the rumors spread that Jisoo would participate in the project initially named "Influenza."
The episode being the result of a collaboration between Han Ji-won, the screenwriter of "Parasite" who co-wrote the script with Bong Joon-ho, and Ji Ho-ji. In addition, they will be working with Yoon Sung-hyun, the creator of "Bleak Night" and "Time Hunt."
Newtopia is also a reunion between Park Jeong-min and Jisoo after they played roles together in “Dr. Cheon and the Lost Talisman” (2023) — Park Jeong-min in a shaman role and Jisoo as a Taoist deity.
Besides, Im Sung-jae who acted in "The Worst of Evil," "Moving," and "D.P. season 2" will be the part of the drama as well.
There has been no further news about Newtopia if there will be a global streaming platform or not. However, the series is set to be released in 2025.
