Info in Movie News | The Marvel Cinematic Universe is going to get one of its most popular teams with the new movie The Fantastic Four: First Steps. The movie that has been long anticipated is all about the return of the MCU to the fans of the Fantastic Four, consisting of Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby), Ben Grimm (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), and Johnny Storm (Joseph Quinn). Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige is unveiling the future of these characters during the interview, he also talks about the way that they could possibly connect with the current heroes, especially one very popular character: Spider-Man, as the franchise steps into a new phase.
According to Collider, Feige recently sat down for a press roundtable with journalist Steve Weintraub, where he touched on the long-standing comic book friendship between Peter Parker and Johnny Storm. The fan will definitely like the fact that the characters have finally been brought to the MCU, and the opportunity of witnessing that relationship being developed on the screen becomes very real.
“Whenever we cast, it’s with that blue-sky dream in mind of one day being able to do that, and that’s a great example,” Feige explained. “That’s one of the key relationships in Marvel Comics: Johnny Storm and Peter Parker. And we’ve never been able to come close to it before. Now it’s in the realm of possibility.”
Joseph Quinn, known for his breakout role in Stranger Things, brings the fiery and reckless Johnny Storm to life in First Steps, while Tom Holland continues his run as the ever-relatable Spider-Man. The possibility of these two actors appearing together in any future projects has the fans, who are familiar with their comic book relationship, really excited, this relationship has always been characterized by playful banter, rivalry, and an underlying brotherhood.
Feige hasn't formally announced any definite cross-over plans but his statement implies that Marvel is still on track to develop that bond in the next movies and/or shows. It doesn't matter if it was a significant Avengers-level event or a minor, more local project as the fact is, the door is now wide open.
Both characters have had notable journeys on screen over the years. Spider-Man was definitely played by Tobey Maguire in Sam Raimi's original trilogy before Andrew Garfield took on the character in the 2012 and 2014 reboots. Subsequently, Tom Holland has been playing the role in the MCU. However, the Human Torch character of Johnny Storm has been represented by Chris Evans in the 2005 Fantastic Four movies, and by Michael B. Jordan in the 2015 reboot. Surprisingly, these actors have also starred as lead characters in the MCU—the former as Captain America, and the latter as Killmonger.
Now, when Marvel has just got the Fantastic Four, the studio also has the power and the opportunity to make new character arcs that still follow the comics. The connection between Johnny and Peter may even be the driving force of future stories with a more personal, younger vibe and may also be the beginning of the creation of the new duo that follows the example of past fan-favorite pairs like Tony Stark and Peter Parker.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps is going to be the new superteam as well as the never-ending story-telling in cinemas from July 25, 2025, but it also signifies the new era of the MCU, whether you are a hardcore comics fan or just into good character interactions, it doesn't matter.
Keep watching out for trusted sources to bring more updates and exclusive coverage as the Marvel’s first family is ready for the limelight.
Next, Doomsday, the rumored multi-MCU crossover event expected to feature the Fantastic Four among others, is set for release in May 2026. Marvel is still mum about the full lineup, however, some early hints point to this movie inaugurating the forthcoming cosmic-level trouble in the MCU.
