Info in Movie News | tvN’s next drama Law and The City is planned to launch on 5 July 2025 and it’s currently one of the most desired K-dramas of the year. Instead of concentrating on courtroom drama or high-stakes legal wars, this series is more about the humane aspect of the legal profession, particularly young associate attorneys who are trying to figure out their careers and relationships.
According to Soompi, Law and The City follows five associate lawyers, Ahn Ju Hyeong (Lee Jong Suk), Kang Hui Ji (Mun Ka Young), Cho Chang Won (Kang You Seok), Bae Mun Jeong (Ryu Hye Young), and Ha Sang Gi (Im Seong Jae), who all work in different law firms located within the same office building, the Hyungmin Building. Each of them was from a different background, but they had the same daily routines and similar professional problems which united them right in the middle of Seoul’s legal district.
Mun Ka Young is the one who plays Kang Hui Ji, a brave and energetic rookie lawyer. She is sincere, energetic, and unafraid of approaching anyone, especially Ahn Ju Hyeong, if she has a question or needs some advice. Mun defined her character as “one to be loved and brave,” and she even added that Hui Ji is like danmuji (pickled radish), sour, sweet, and able to be the perfect match for everything on the table. That metaphor really goes for Hui Ji’s role as a connector, because she is still able to have strong ties not only with coworkers and clients but also with the firm’s leadership.
Lee Jong Suk, however, is an actor who takes the role of Ahn Ju Hyeong who is a lawyer that has been loyal to his firm for nine years. Because of his calm nature and rational logic, Ju Hyeong is looked upon as an ideal player among the peers. His unruffled, almost cold nature along with Hui Ji’s lively temperament create a great and natural attraction for the audience.
Their relationship is not violent or too romanticized one. Moreover, the drama is more for a gradual approach, featuring the substantial looks, kind acts, and serious lunch conversations. The very motivation for Hui Ji’s liking of Ju Hyeong is her inquisitiveness and her respect for him. She only wants to get to know the legal world better, and the image of Ju Hyeong, who is always ready to lend a hand, is perfect there. But can it be just professional, or has there brain a quiet emotional pull unfolding between them?
Fans are already speculating that Hui Ji’s approach may stem from more than just admiration. Some unknown factor like Ju Hyeong’s quiet nature, his dedication to the job, or perhaps a secret grief quietly shinning through his peaceful eyes made her unable to stop herself from being interested in him.
Besides the main relationship plot, Law and The City features an interesting and colorful cast, which consists of strange managing partners and a mysterious building owner as well. Each firm within the Hyungmin Building has its own style, challenges, and interpersonal politics, providing layers of tension and humor throughout the series.
Yet, fundamentally, the show is for connection. The drama has certainly doused with several moments of slice-of-life which feel real and relatable., such as bonding over late-night work, exploring tricky office dynamics, or simply sharing food. It shows us even in a dog-eat-dog world like law, the things warmth, friendship, and vulnerability are still important.
In case you are in a mood for a drama that has all the ingredients like workplace realism, emotional subtlety, and a bit of romantic intrigue, then Law and The City could be a great choice for you. Don't forget to watch it on July 5 at 9:20 p.m. KST!
