Info in Movie News | Joo Hyun Young is going to send shivers down the fans' spine with her scary new character in her most recent horror movie, Ghost Train. Joo, who was recognized for her lively and humorous presence in dramas and variety shows, takes a very dark turn as Da Kyung, a horror YouTuber who goes beyond all the limits for viral content. The movie is scheduled to debut in South Korean cinemas on July 2, 2025.

According to Soompi, Ghost Train depicts the journey of Da Kyung, a content creator who is powerfully determined to increase the number of viewers for her channel. In her folly, she went investigating mysterious disappearances at Gwanglim Station, a subway stop surrounded by fables and thus the place was considered very strange. However, as her inquisitiveness goes further, she ends up caught in a horrifying reality where the boundary between the gossip and the truth is not clear.

Joo Hyun Young has done a comedy in the past and this movie is a complete departure from that. For instance, she was the main character in Extraordinary Attorney Woo (2022) and also became the talk of the town after her appearances on SNL Korea. The character of Da Kyung, that she plays, is quite powerful and emotionally deep, showing the other side of her acting skills. The personality of the character is full of ambition, yet emotionally weak, she gradually losing her mind while facing the super-natural horror beyond her understanding.

The movie is directed by Tak Se Woong (Devil in the Lake) and the script is written by Jo Ba Reun (Ghost Mansion). The movie relays more than just the fright of the sudden. In it, the tale of terror in the psyches of people is unveiled while tackling the topics like the addiction to and pressure of being up-to-date in the social media.

Photographs released earlier have given us a glimpse of Da Kyung’s getting more and more paranoid. One of the pictures reveals her as she is very tense in the station control room while waiting for the manager, played by the veteran actor Jeon Bae Soo. Besides, some other pictures represent such a blood-stained vending machine, a mysterious woman with colorful plants growing from her face, and a frightened girl who is lying on the floor of the station in a state of shock.

The cast also counts Choi Bo Min representing Woo Jin, a character who is very important since, without him, one could not get to the dark side of the station's secrets. His relationship with Da Kyung is so strong that it makes a more interesting story with lots of mystery and emotional tension. Their joint journey into a world where the cost of internet fame is something absolutely terrifying has therefore been a foregone conclusion.

It is worth emphasizing that the movie mhas been categorised as a mere ghost story; however, it has also been interpreted as an image of the digital era we live in. One of the points raised in the movie is how Da Kyung's downward plunge represents the abilities of some people to lose touch with reality in their chase for viewers. Actually, it's a very current message that not everything that is trending should be wholeheartedly pursued.

The story is very scary visually, the plot is very intriguing, and the Joo Hyun Young’s acting is also there – so, the movie is definitely going to be a hit in the Korean horror genre this year, especially among the fans who like a social twist in psychological thrillers.
