Laurence Fishburne Hasn’t Been Called Yet for John Wick 5, Still Hopes to Return as Bowery King

Laurence Fishburne Hasn’t Been Called Yet for John Wick 5, But He's Hopeful

Info in Movie News | With John Wick 5 officially in development, fans are already buzzing about which familiar faces might return alongside Keanu Reeves. One fan-favorite character, the ever-charismatic Bowery King played by Laurence Fishburne, seems like a strong candidate, but according to Fishburne himself, he hasn’t heard anything from the team just yet.

Speaking to Collider during the press tour for his upcoming thriller The Amateur, where he stars alongside Rami Malek, Fishburne was asked directly if he’s been contacted about returning for the next chapter in the franchise. “So, I haven’t heard from Keanu and Chad about John Wick 5, but I’m sure I will,” he told Steve Weintraub. It's not a confirmation, but it's also not a hard no, more like the door is still open.

While he's waiting for the call, Fishburne has been keeping busy with The Amateur, a spy thriller directed by James Hawes. The movie follows a CIA code expert, played by Malek, who goes off the grid to hunt down the terrorists responsible for his wife's death. Fishburne plays a senior figure in the agency, a character that may or may not have a few secrets of his own. The movie is slated for release on November 8, 2024, and looks to be one of those intense, grounded thrillers that espionage fans will love.

As for the Bowery King, he made his debut in John Wick: Chapter 2, and quickly became one of the franchise’s standout supporting characters. With his underground intelligence network disguised as a homeless shelter, a flair for the dramatic, and a no-nonsense attitude, he’s helped John navigate the criminal underworld more than once. By Chapter 4, he was fully on John’s side, even supplying him with a new suit and weapon in the lead-up to the final duel.

So will we see him again in John Wick 5? Fishburne seems hopeful, and fans definitely are too. The Bowery King brings a unique energy to the series, a mix of street wisdom, theatricality, and grit, that balances out the more refined elegance of characters like Winston and the Continental crowd.

With the next movie still in development, anything’s possible. But one thing is clear, John Wick 5 won’t feel quite the same without Laurence Fishburne somewhere in the mix.
