Info in Movie News | Finally, the Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) devotees have a reason to be happy as a long-time promised live-action series that has changed its casting has found a new home in Netflix. This has been a much-anticipated project that has indeed been in the pipeline for quite a while, finally, the series has been officially taken over by Netflix after many changes. As per the recent deliverable, The Forgotten Realms is the new name of the series which was supposed to originally be called Dungeons & Dragons which rings a bell to D&D lovers all over the world and this fact now stands true.
Paramount+, a new streaming service that has just started its journey, was initially aimed to screen the series and it was going to be directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber, however, the series production got cancelled.
The renewed version of the project is under the expert production guidance of Shawn Levy known for directing Deadpool & Wolverine. Drew Crevello, previously, was the one who had used his creative mind and led the miniseries WeCrashed, starring Jared Leto and Anne Hathaway.
The story of Forgotten Realms was born in Canada by game designer, and author Ed Greenwood even earlier before there was any Dungeons & Dragons. Greenwood first launched the world to this narrative through stories published in the official D&D magazine, Dragon, during the 1970s and after some time he sold it to the present owners of D&D in 1986.
The Forgotten Realms has been the most unaccounted backdrops of D&D since it was thought of. What clearly sets Forgotten Realms apart from the rest is its fluidity: any story you might want to tell, you can tell in it. A number of the most well-known characters from Forgotten Realms are Drizzt Do’Urden, Wulfgar the Barbarian, and Elminster a legendary wizard who is best known as the Merlin of the D&D universe.
The enchanting world of Forgotten Realms has served as the setting for numerous D&D spin-offs, including the Baldur’s Gate game series and the movie Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, which was released in 2023.
The attempt to adapt Dungeons & Dragons into a live-action series has been tried several times in the past. The first movie adaptation was released in 2000 and starred Thora Birch, Marlon Wayans, and Jeremy Irons. Regrettably, the film was poorly received by critics, failing to impress at the box office despite generating two direct-to-video sequels. On the other hand, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves was better received by fans and critics alike.
